GEORGE TRUMP, OF SECOND FORK, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE WILLIAM` HUNTLEY, OF SAME PLAGE.
4IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED ROOT-CUTTERS AND SHOVEL-PLOWS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,839, dated November 14, 1871.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE TRUMP, of Second vFork Village, Cameron county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Root- Outter, Grubbing, and Shovel-Plow Combined, and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part oi' this specification, in which- Figure l represents a side elevation ofthe plow, Fig. 2 a wedge to tighten the plow and cutter in the beam. Fig. 3 is a side view of the cutter, and Fig. 4 a back view of the same. Fig. 5 represents an oval-shaped nut that is put upon the front end of the stay-rod for the cutter to rest against when the plow is removed, or when the cutter or plow is used alone.'
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and combination of the cutter, plow, the adjustable rod, the top post on the beam, the
' plate on the top of the beam for the adjusting of the cutter or plow, and the curved end of the beam. The object of my invention is to cut roots and grub or plow with one implement, to adjust it at any angle required, while the rear end of the beam is curved downward to support and stay the adjusting-rod.
A represents the handles of the plow, attached to the side of the beam B and supported by a post, C, on the top of the beam, the post C being stayed and fastened to the beam by cast-iron plates D on each side, riveted to the sides of the post (l and beam B. The rear end of the beam B is curved downward in a section of a circle to strengthen the operation of the cutter or plow by means of the adjustable stay-rod E, that passes through it where it is held by screw-bolts G G, and' rests with its other end in the apertures H H of the plow J and the cutter K. A nut, L, also stays the-plow or cutter, when required to brace the cutter or plow at any angle, when adjusted. In front of the cutter K is a wedge or key, M, to tighten the cutter to the beam B, and when the cutter or plow is removed so as to work with either one, a wider wedge is inserted, as shown at Fig. 2; also to secure the angle of the cutter or plow. A plate,N, of cast iron screwed fast to the top of the beam near the post (l lits into the notches P P of the cutter or plow, and holds it stationary when it is set to its proper angle.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the root-cutters K K with the beam .B and 'adjustable rod E, when the rod 'E is attached to the curved end of the beam and Witnesses J. FRANKLIN REIGART,
EDM. F. BROWN. (43)
