Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application filed December 11, 1915. Serial No. 66,311.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. Brno and RENIER BYRD, citizens of the United States, residing at Pelham, in the county of Mitchell and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weighting Systems for Textile Fly- Frames, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an attachment for spinning machines, and more particularly to the class of weighting mechanism for fly frames.
The primary object of the invention is the pro-vision of mechanism of this character, wherein the front, middle and back feed and tension rollers of the drawing frame will be automatically weighted with a single weight, thereby dispensing with a plurality of independent weights for this purpose.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a weighting mechanism, where in the construction is novel in form, so that the pressure on the respective rollers of the 'slubber machine will be uniform, the mechanism being readily and easily adjusted to vary the weight upon the said rollers, as the occasion may require.
A further object of the invention is the provision of mechanism of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong,
'durable, and inexpensive in manufacture and installation.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of con struction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a fragmentary vertical transverse sectional view through a spinning machine showing the attachment constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view showing the attachment in elevation. Fig. 3, is a fragmentary vertical transverse sectional view showing the attachment in side elevation. Fig. 4, is a fragmentary top plan view. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the equalizer bar.

Referring to the drawings, in detail, A, designates a portion of the table of the frame B of the machine supporting the working parts, C and D, the respective rolls of three pairs of drawing rolls which are supported and driven in the usual manner, the thread or roving, E, being drawn through the drawing rolls and passing therefrom to the fly frame and bobbins as usual. The upper rolls D, are weighted at their opposite ends in a manner presently described. i
The weighting mechanism comprises a jack 10, which is fixed in the table frame A, to rise vertically therefrom, and is formed with an eye 11, at its upper free end in which engages the hook terminal 12, of a weight beam 13, formedat its opposite free end with spaced notches 14, in any one of which is engaged the hanger 15, of a suspension weight 16, which is readily and easily adjusted upon the weight beam.
Provided in the weight beam 18, intermediate its ends are spaced holes 17, in any one of which is detachably engageable a pivot pin 18, which is also passed through the arms of an inverted U-shaped fulcrum yoke 19, straddling an equalizer bar 20, which is formed with spaced notches 21, to provide seats for the yoke 19, which is slidably adjustable thereon.
The equalizer bar 20, is formed with hook ends 22, with which engage the eyes 23, of front and rear weight stirrups 24, and 25, respectively, the latter of which engages the saddle 26, for the middle and back rollers D, while the other stirrup 24, engages the front roller, thereby utilizing a single weight for the front, middle and back rollers D, as shown.
Mounted on the table A, is a rotatable rest 27, which is swiveled therein and adapted to swing into and out of the path of the weight'beam 13, the rest 27 being formed with a laterally extending horn 28, which when in the path of movement of said beam 13 supports the latter so as torelieve the weight upon the rollers D, when the machine is inactive, thus permitting the said rollers to be removed for cleaning or oiling, and also preventing the flattening of said rollers when burdened with the weight.

What is claimed is A Weighting attachment for spinning machines comprising a stationary jack mounted upon the table of said machine and having an upper eye terminal, a straight Weight beam formed with a hook end fulcrumed in the eye terminal and having a series of transverse holes spaced from each other intermediate its ends, a Weight adjustably suspended upon the end of the beam remote from the fulcrum end thereof, an equalizer bar having hook ends and also provided with spaced notches in its upper edge, an
inverted substantially U-shaped fulcrum yoke straddling said equalizer bar and engageable in any one of the notches thereof,
a pivot pin mounted in the yoke and engageable in any one of the holes in the weight beam, a saddle adapted to act upon the journals of two of the uppermost drawing rolls of the machine, and a pair of stir- In testimony whereof we afiiX our signatures.
