To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BELA KORMENDY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Chair and Table-Leaf; and I hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in a combined chair and table-leaf for use in assembly-rooms, lunch rooms, etc., and more especially to a chair which not only has an arm arranged at the right-hand side and above the seat of the chair and extending forwardly beyond said seat but comprises a standard instrumental in supporting said arm and provided with a slideway which extends up and down the standard and is engaged by a slide to which is pivotally connected a table-leaf. which is arranged substantially vertically in the lower position of the slide and in position to be swung over the forward portion of the chair-arm upon the actuation of the slide from its lower into its upper position.

One object of this invention is to render a piece of furniture of the character indicated simple and durable in construction and of great convenience in assembly-rooms and lunch-rooms.

Another object is to provide means whereby the table-leaf is maintained in position vertically in the lower position of the hereinbefore mentioned slide and is not liable to displacement in said position of the slide.

With these objects in view, and to the end of attaining any other advantage hereinafter appearing, this invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in'the accompanying drawin s.

looking downwardly. Fig. 6 is a vertical section showing the table-leaf actuated into its upper position preparatory to swinging said leaf onto the arm of the chair. Fig. 7 is a vertical section corresponding with Fig. 6, except that in Fig. 7 the table-leaf is shown swung onto said arm.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of said drawings, A indicates the seat of an arm-chair, and B the back of the chair. O represents the arm of the chair, which arm is arranged at the right-hand side and above the seat A and extends forwardly beyond said seat in a horizontal plane and has its forward portion wider than its rear portion and forming a horizontally arranged shelf 10 which rests on topof and is rigid with a vertically arranged wooden standard D formed in any approved manner. The standard D is instrumental therefore in supporting the forward portion 10 of the chair-arm. The standard D is preferably provided under said portion of the chair-arm with a bracket 11 on which said arm rests. The standard D is braced, as at 12, from and rigid with the body of the chair.

The forward portion 10 of the arm C (see Figs. 2, 3, 6 and 7 is provided at its outer longitudinal edge with a recess 13 which extends from top to bottom of said arm. The standard D is provided at its outer side with two parallel metal bars d which are arranged vertically and secured to the standard in any aproved manner and spaced-longitudinally of the forward portion 10 of the chair-' arm C. In a chair, an arm arranged at one side and above the seat of the chair and extending forwardly beyond said seat, a standard instrumental in supporting the forward portion of said arm and provided at its outer side with a slideway extending up and down the standard, a slide engaging said slideway and provided at its outer side with two laterally and outwardly projecting horizontally spaced arms, a pivotal rod arranged horizontally and borne by said arms of the slide, a frame having armsmounted on said pivotal rod, a table-leaf attached to said frame, said frame and the connected table-leaf being in position to be swung over theaforesaid portion of the chair-arm upon the actuation of the slide from its lower into its upper position, and means for preventing outward swinging of said frame at any point during the travel of the slide.

In a chair, an arm arranged at one side and above the seat of the chair and extending forwardly beyond said seat, a standard instrumental in supporting the forward portion of said arm and provided at its outer side with two upright bars which are spaced longitudinally of said arm and instrumental in" forming a slideway extending up and down the standard, a slide engaging said slideway, a metal'frame pivoted to the slide horizontally and transversely of the path of the slide, said frame being parallel with the slide in the lower position of the slide and provided at its outer side with spaced wooden bars, and a table-leaf secured to said bars and arranged substantially vertically in the lower position of the slide, the aforesaid frame and the connected table-leaf being in position to be swung onto the aforesaid portion of the aforesaid arm upon the actuation of said slide from its lower into its upper position.

5. In a chair, an arm arranged at one side and above the seat of the chair and extending forwardly beyond said seat, a standard instrumental in supporting the forward portion of said arm and provided at its outer side with a slideway extending up and down the standard, a slide engaging said slideway and provided at its outer side with two laterally and outwardly projecting horizontally spaced arms, a pivotal rod arranged horizontally and borne by said arms of the slide, a frame having. arms mounted on said pivotal rod, and a table-leaf attached to said frame, said frame and the connected table-leaf being in position to be swung over the aforesaid portion of the chairarm upon the actuation of the slide from its lower into its upper position, the aforesaid arms of the slide having downwardly projecting members arranged below the axis of the aforesaid frameand in position to prevent outward swinging of said frame at any point during the travel of the slide.

6. In a chair, an arm arranged at one side and above the seat of the chair and extending forwardly beyond said seat, a standard arranged at the forward portion of said arm and provided at its outer side with two upright bars which are spaced longitudinally of said arm and instrumental in forming a slideway extending up and down the standard, a slide engaging said slideway, a frame pivoted to the slide horizontally and transversely of the path of the slide, and a table-leaf connected to said frame, said frame and the connected table-leaf being arranged to be swung onto the aforesaid portion of the chair-arm upon the actuation of the slide from its lower into its upper position, and the aforesaid bars being provided with flanges which extend longitudinally of the bars and overlap the outer side of the slide and are long enough to prevent displacement of the slide laterally outwardly in any position of the slide.
