WILLIAM C. HOMAN, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO EDWARD MILLER & COMPANY, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
GLOBE AND SHADE HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HoMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, New Haven county, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe and Shade Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improved holding device for globes, shades and the like.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view of the under side of my improved globe holder. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22. Fig. 3 is adetail view.
1 is a gallery having the usual central perforation for the passage of the lighting device. Within the rim of the gallery is a spring globe gripping ring 2, said ring having overlapping ends provided with outwardly directed handles 33. These handles pass through an elongated slot 4t in the side of the gallery 1, so that they may be grasped by the fingers and pinched together to expand the ring, that side of the ring being likewise supported in said slot.
The opposite side of the ring is provided with an offset or extension 5 which passes freely through a perforation 6 in the side of the gallery 1, and is supported therein. The ring 2 is normally collapsed as shown in solid lines Fig. 1 and has a limited amount of loose lateral movement whereby when a globe is inserted and gripped, it will be properly centered. It is obvious that in the absence of some suitable means, the offset 5 of the ring might be accidentally withdrawn from supporting engagement with the gallery 1. To prevent this I have devised a very simple expedient of providing a link 7 preferably in the form of a cotter pin, the eye of which surrounds the ring 2 and the ends of which pass freely through a small perforation 8 in the side of the gallery, the ends ofsaid cotter pin being bent Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 105,314.
out as indicated in Fig. 2. This cotter pin is indicated in close proximity to the offset 5 and simply performs the function of limiting the movement of the ring in a direction to withdraw the offset 5 from supporting engagement with the gallery. It does not otherwise prevent the ring from having lateral movement for the purpose of centering the globe.
What I claim is:
1. In a globe holder and support, agallery, a. globe gripping spring ring, a handle at each end thereof, an elongated slot in the side of the gallery through which the handles pass, an extension at the opposite side of said ring, a slot in the gallery through which the extension freely passes whereby said ring may have lateral movement in the gallery, and the link connecting a part of the ring at one side of said extension with the wall of the gallery to limit the lateral movement of the ring to prevent the extension from being entirely withdrawn from its slot in said gallery.
2. In a globe holder and support, a gallery, a globe'gripping spring ring, a handle at each end thereof, an elongated slot in the side of the gallery through which the handles pass, an extension at the opposite side of said ring, a slot in the gallery through which the extension freely passes whereby said ring may have lateral move ment in the gallery, and the link connecting a partof the ring at one side of said extension with the wall of the gallery to limit the lateral movement of the ring to prevent the extension from being entirely withdrawn from its slot in said" gallery, said ring being normally collapsed, the ends of said ring overlapping.
