WELDON A. L. HOFF, 0F EDMOND, DKLAHOMA.
ADJUSTABLE CRUTCH-TIP.
To 0711071 0m it may concern Be it known that I, WnLnoN A. L. HOFF, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Edmond, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Crutch-Tips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved crutch and the principal object of the invention is to provide an improved type of crutch end, the resilient core thereof being adjustably held in place by improved means whereby the core can be gradually fed out of the lower end portion of the crutch.
Another object of'the invention is to so construct this crutch that when the core is worn out, a new one can be easily put in place.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fi ure 1 is a view showing the improved crutc in elevation. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional View through the lower portion of the crutch.
This crutch is provided with the side bars 10 connected by the hand grip 11 and having their lower ends secured in the sleeve 12. This sleeve 12 may be connected with the side bars 10 in any. suitable manner as the subject matter of this invention relatesto the manner of adjustably holding the core 13 within the sleeve. This core 13 which is preferably formed of rubber, fits within the lower end portion of sleeve 12 and is provided at its upper end with openings through which the wires 14 pass. These wires 14 are bent to engage the head 15 of the inner sleeve 16 through the openings 17 and it will thus be seen that the core will be securely connected with the sleeve 16. This sleeve 16 is provided with a plurality of openings 18 extending in spiral courses around the sleeve, each of the openings being positioned diametrically opposite a second opening, so
' that the bolt 19 can be passed through the sleeve 12 and through a selected set of the openings 18. By having the openings 18 extend in spiral courses around the sleeve 16, the sleeve 16 can be adjusted longitudi- Specification of Letters Patent.

can be easily and quickly adjusted. This will permit the crutch to be regulated. ac-
cording to the length desired. It very often happens that a crutch will be either just a little too long or a little too short but with this construction, the exact length can be readily obtained.
What is claimed is 1. A crutch including a terminal sleeve, a carrying sleeve slidably mounted in said terminal sleeve and provided with a head atits lower end and. having its walls provided with openings adjacent the head, a core fitting within said terminal sleeve, wires passed through said'core and having their end portions bent upwardly and passing through the openings in the walls of said carrying sleeve to engage the head thereof and releasably connect the core with the carrying sleeve, and means for releasably holding said carrying sleeve in an adjusted position within said terminal sleeve.
2. A support including a terminal sleeve, a carrying sleeve adjustably mounted in said terminal sleeve and having walls provided with openings adjacent its lower end, a core positioned beneath said carrying sleeve-in said terminal sleeve and extending out of said terminal sleeve, and pliable means passingthrough said core and having its end portions passed through the openings in the carrying sleeve to connect the core with the lower end of the carrying sleeve. In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 'in presence of two witnesses.
