Be it lmown that l, WnLLiAin 4l. Bauman, a' citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Closures, of which the following is a specification.
bly invention relates to bottle closures.
Une of the objects of my 'invention' is to provide a simple, one piece, emcient, and sanitary receptacle closure.
other object of my invention is to provide a jar or bottle closure thated'ectively covers the boundary wall of the mouth of the jar or bottle and which will retain itself in place and can be quicklyv removed and @ther and further objects of my invern-- tion will become readily apparent2 to perfrom a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the nu: wherein Figure 1 is an elevation of a milk bottle showing my closure in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a central section through the closure and a fraent of the bottle. lFi 3 is a plan view of the sheet of metal glank of which the closure is made before the side wings are bent into place.
ln all the views the same reference characters are employed to indicate similar parts. a
My im roved closure is 'especially' well adapted or use for temporarily closing jars or bottles, such as bottles and the like. e 'ease with which it may be applied to and removed from such receptacles, its low manufacturing cost and its simplicity of operation render it very desirable.
The device is preferably made from sheet metal, of a springy or resilient character, blanlred ont as shown in lig. 3. The main body part 5 is erally circular in outline and is provide l with oppositely extendin wings ii and 7, the terminal outer edges ol which are concave or inwardly curved, as at 8, and somewhat rounded at the corners, as at 9, the wings are each downturned, as at l0, and inturned, as at ll, so that the conh'ontlng curved l @c 11 where they contact the neck of l bottle, are somewhat `i i i ce i i r: ondwith the diameter of the noch l2 of the bottle i3. From the body part 5 is npwardly dedected an annular bead ll which is of substantially the cui diameter and en on as the mouth l5 of the bottle, so

that the wall of the mouth of the bottle is ed'ective'lyrcovered thereby to prevent contaminatm agencies from contact with it,
. such as dies or the like, when the cover is it is only necessary the bottle, the curved edges 8 serving to i eldingly hold the closure in place and the ad 14 will settle down over the mouth 15 of the bottle. When lateral'pressurc is applied to either .side of the closure, as on the` win 6 or 7 to remove the closure from the -bott e the wings, as a result of the curved portion 8 and the projecting edges 9 are outwardly deected and when the projections '9 pass beyond the ediate diameter of the neck of the bottle, in the operation of removing the closure, the curvature of the neck of the bottle will of the closure. l
'lPhe device is very easily .put in place and facilitate removal lid.
dit
metal of which they are composed will be returned to contact with removed and serves as a temporary means for closing the bottle toprevent entrance of :u au ts or other objectionable matter into the interior ofv thebottle and is intended to take-the place ofethe less' convenient usual paper cover.
While l have herein shown a single embodiment of my invention, for the purpose of clear disclosure, it is evident that changes may be made in the general form and configuration of the device within the spiritV and scope of the appended claims.
llaving described my invention, what l claim is l. A rece tacle closure comprising a gen;
lili til erally roun thin body part and attachment means arranged-for sidewise removal or attachment to a receptacle neck, said attachment means comprising laterally pro-A integral wings having inwardly l' leurve end portions, the wings exteng outwardly beyond the periphery of the receptacle neck in the same plane as the body part, then downwardly and inwardly, the
end edges of the w being concaved .on a
radius substantially equal to that ofthe receptacle n to make contact therewith and impositively lock the closure in place.
2. d closure cap for the mouthof a im ldd ltd
l ment Wings extending laterally from the Vtle neck in the same p cap at diametrically opposite points and projecting beyond the eriphery of the botane as the body part of the cap, the end portions thereof being formed downwardly and inwardly with their endedges arcuately formed about the axis of the bottle as a center to make resili.- 15 ent contact with the neck of the bottle and impositively lock the closure cap in place.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
