To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, DAVID citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Oil and Gas Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ,oftlie invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new andusetul improvements in combined oil and gas burner 'and is more particularlyian improvement over my former Patent No. 965,40? dated July 26, 1910,and my object is to provide a burner having a depression therein 1 to re ceive the liquid oil and arrange concentric 'ribs in the depression whereby the oil will be caused to flow slowly from the central to the outer portion ofthe hollow section of the burner. v

The wall of the deflector is made of heavy material and very thick so that when the same becomes heated thoroughly, the heat will be retained and increased to such intensity as to burn the residue of the oil left in the valleys of the burner.
lhe deflector 10 is supported above the burner by providing arms 13 which are spaced apartand project outwardiy over the upper edge of the burner and rest thereon, the outer. ends or" the arms having depending portions 14 which extend over the peripheral face ofthe burner and prevent the deflector from moving laterally thereon, By providing a combined gas and oil burner, it will be readily seen that should the supply of oil or gas fail, the other product can be used as a heating medium and further that should an intense heat be required both fuels may be used at the same time. It will likewise be understood that by providing the ribs whereby the oilis caused. to flow over the base of the cavity slowly, the" gases will be more readily extracted therefrom and by provid ing the form of deflector shown, after the same becomes thoroughly heated the residue of the oil will be thoroughly consumed.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is 1. A combination oil and gas burner having a central cavity therein, said burner having aport communicating with said cavity at its axial center, a rib surrounding the port and extending a distance above the floor of the cavity, a plurality of ribs concentric with the central rib and decreasing in height from the center rib to the edge of the cavity, said burner having a channel around its outer periphery for the reception of gas, the top wall of that portion of the burner over said channel having a plurality of ports therethrough through which the gas is discharged from the channel above the burner. The combination with a burner, of a deflector having a central opening, the lower and uniformly curved from the central opening upwardly, supporting arms attached to the deflector, said arms having depending portions at their outer ends adapted to extend over and engage the peripheral face of the burner, the body of said deflector being formed ofthick heavy material whereby, when. thoroughly heated any residue of oil in the burner will be consumed by the intense heat of the deflector.
