To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, IVILLIAH G. KENDALM a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented .certain new and useful Improvements in Rouge-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to new and useful improvements in receptacles or containers and more particularly to rouge boxes, the primary object of my invention being the provision of a. rouge box in which the rouge holding' pad, instead of being attached directly to the bottom-of the box, is indirectly secured tothe box in such a manner as to be yieldably held at-the top of the box when the latter is opened and, therefore, in such a manner that the rouge is readily acA cessible at all times.

In this connection, a still further object of my invention consists in .providing a rouge box having a. false bottom serving as an` anchoring means for a supporting spring, the upper end of. which is secured in any suitable manner to the bottom of the rouge holding pad.

A still further object of my invention consists in providing a container of the above described character including an outer box and an inner box, the latter having the false bottom and being proportioned to closely encircle the pad.

A. still further object of my invention consists in the .provision of a box so proportioned that a rouge puff may be contained in the box above the rouge pad when the box is closed, and in the provision of a mirror in the top of the box which is exposed when the box is opened.

lVith these and other objects in view, my invention will be more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically pointed out in the claims which are attached to and form a part of this application.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

In that form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4t of the drawings, I employ an outer box 10 having 'a cover 11 and inclosing an inner box 12 in which the rouge pad 13 is positioned, being supported therein by a spring 111.

More specifically, the outer box includes a bottom 15, of any desired shape, formed with an upstanding marginal wall 16 which forms the outer wall of the outer box. An upstanding inner wall 17 is secured within the box, engaging at its outer face against the inner face of the outer wall 16 and projectingat its upper edge above the upper edge of the outer wall in such a manner that the outer wall will form a stop for the cover, as will be later explained. The cover 11 includes the top proper 18 having the downwardly depending marginal flange 19, the free edge of which engages the upper edge of the outer wall 1G of the outer box when the cover is closed. A strip of fabric or other suitable material 2O serves to hingedly connect the cover to the box, one end of this strip being secured between the inner and outer walls 1G and 17 and the opposite end being secured to the outer face of the marginal wall 19 of the cover. The cover and box are both covered with paper or other suitable material for the purpose of ornamentation and secured within the cover and against the inner face of the top portion 18 thereof, is a mirror 21, a retaining strip 22 of paper or other suitable material, secured to the marginal wall 19 and to the peripheral `edge of the mirror, serving to hold the lat- 13. This rouge 'holding pad forms the subject matter of a separate application filed by me June 14, 1915, and bearing the Serial No. 34,303and need not, therefore, be described in detail in this case.

The pad consists of a circular body, generally of sheet metal having an upwardly and inwardly directed annular retaining flange 26, and the rouge 27 is pressed onto the upper face of the pad in the manner shown and retained in place by this fiange. I Secured to the bottom of the pad 13 and centrally thereof, is a retaining ring 27',

generally formed of wire in order toprovide an undercut shoulder to receive the smaller end of the tapering helical spring 14. The opposite or lower larger end of this spring is retained by being partially threaded through the opening in the false bottom 21,'

the portion passing through this opening seating within the opening of the bottom proper of the inner box.

In assembling the above described article,

the spring is attached to the pad and then threaded into the false bottom of the inner box, after which the inner box is positioned within the outer box and secured in place by adhesive or any other suitable means desired. The spring 14 is of such strength and so proportioned as regards its length as to normally support the pad in the'position shown in Fig. 1, that is, with the rouge at least level with the top of the inner box. The spring may, however, be compressed to per mit the keeping of a rouge puff 2S between the cover of the box and the pad in the manner shown in Fig. 2.

In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have illustrated a simpler form of construction including the outer box 10 and its cover 11 which are identical with the. box and cover 10 and 11 previously described, except that they are proportioned to snugly receive the rouge holding pad 13. In this form of the invention, a false bottom 29 is secured within the seat may be narrower at its lower than at its upper end. This seat, in itself, receives the upper end of the supporting spring 14 and the spring is retained by engagement with the inclined annular walls of the seat.

In view of the different constructions above illustrated, it will be clear that I do not wish, in any way, to limit myself tothe specific arrangement lof parts set forth and illustrated, as various minor changes, Within the scope of the appended claims, may be box and spaced-from the bottom thereof and' provided with an opening, a rouge pad within the box, and a helical vspring having one convolution passed through theopening in the false bottom and anchored beneath the bottom, the spring being connected at .its

opposite end to the rouge pad.

2. A rouge package including an outer box having a hinged cover, an inner box positioned within the outer box with its bottom spaced above that of the, outer box and provided with an opening, a. rouge pad formed with an annular undercut shoulder upon its bottom, and a helical spring'having a terminal convolution sprung under the shoul# der and with its other end passed through the opening in the false bottom.

3. A rouge package including a box hav ing a true and a false bottom spaced apart, the false bottom being formed with an opening, a, helical spring having one end passed through the opening and anchored below the false bottom, a rouge pad positioned in the box, and a ring of wire secured to the lower face of the rouge pad to engage the upper end of the spring.

4. A rouge package including a box having a hinged cover, an inner box centrally disposed in the first box with its peripheral wall spaced from the walls of the first box, the second box having a double bottom formed centrally with openings, the opening in the .upper bottom being more'reduced than that in the lower bottom, a rouge pad fitting within the inner box and guided by its wall, and a helical spring connected at one end to the bottom of the pad and having a terminal convolution passed through the smaller opening of the upper bottom member of the inner box and seating in the larger opening of the lower bottom member of the inner box.
