To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OLIVER M. FAGLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Preserving Vessel or Boiler for Fruit, we, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of a device for preserving fruit, etc., composed of a boiler a tray therein on which jars or other receptacles may be placed, said tray being raised from the bottom of the boiler to allow water to circulate under the latter, and means in the boiler to prevent the jars or receptacles from shifting and striking each other, thus preventing breakage of the same, the tray being adapted to raise all of the jars or receptacles simultaneously from the boiler for conveniently removing the same.

The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, as long as they are included in the scope of the claims.

Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof on a reduced scale. Fig. 3 represents a trans verse section of the tray employed. Fig. 4: represents atop or plan view of another embodiment of my invention. Fig. 5 represents a perspective view of a member detached from Fig. 2.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a boiler or kettle which is to be supplied with water to be heated in any suitable manner within which is the tray 2, the latter having a perforated side 3, and bottom 4, and feet 5 on said bottom, whereby the tray may be supported on the bottom of the boiler with a space 6 between the two bottoms to allow water to circulate under the tray, as well as through its side and bottom thereof, for evident purposes.

Rising from the ends of the tray are the handles 7 which are adapted to lower the tray into the boiler and raise it therefrom in a. convenient manner, said tray being adapted to receive the jars 8, and support them on the bottom thereof, whereby the jars may be placed on the tray and lowered into the boiler, so as to subject the contents Specification of Letters Patent.

of the former to boiling and preserving by the water in the boiler, and when the work is accomplished all ofthe jars may be lifted by the tray at one operation from the boiler. The boiler is provided with a suitable lid or cover 9 for evident purposes.

10 designates a rack which is formed of pieces of wire or other suitable material bent to comprise pockets produced by the separated or flaring arms 11, which are adapted to embrace the sides of the jars, said pieces extending in diametrically opposite directions or in longitudinally and transverse directions of the boiler and being united by twisting the same at or about the center of the rack, as at 12, the outer terminals of said arms reaching the inner side of the tray so as to abut or engage therewith by which provision the tray is prevented from shifting and the jars approaching and striking each other, which in the case of said jars being of glass would crack and fracture each other. To assist furthermore in controlling the rack, the ends of the arms of the rack adjacent to the handles 7 are continuities of the longitudinally extending wires and formed with hooks 13 which are adapted to be fitted on said handles, thus connecting the rack with the latter and holding it more'firmly in place, while also preventing the rack from displacement in locating and removing the tray, and at all times the jars, the tray and the rack are prevented from rattling.

As additional means for holding the jars or receptacles separate from each other, I may employ the hollow bodies 14 preferably of angular form which may be fitted over the jars and rest on the bottom of the tray and form partitions between the sides of the jars, preventing the latter from approaching and striking each other.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a boiler of the character stated, a receptacle embracing rack formed of arms extending in longitudinal and transverse directions forming pockets, said arms meeting centrally of the rack and being united thereat, and hooks on certain of said arms continuities of the same, and a receptacle supporting tray, the latter having rising therefrom handles with which said hooks may be connected.
