UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUST ANDREW SANTO, OF'VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA.
COMBINED KNIFE AND ERASER.
Application filed March 12, 1915.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUs'r ANDREW SANTO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Virginia, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Knives and Erasers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved combination eraser, knife and bookleaf turner, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which can be used for either of such purposes and which is extremely cheap, simple and convenient.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combination eraser, knife and book leaf turner showing the same arranged for use on the forefinger of the user as an eraser. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same. Fig.3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved combination eraser, knife, and book leaf turner showing the same arranged for use on the forefinger of the user as a knife.
In accordance with my invention Iv provide a plate 1, of steel or other suitable metal and which has a blade 2 at one end shown as integral with said 'plate, said blade having a broad sharpened edge 3. At opposite sides of the blade the plate is formed with integral lugs 1 which are bent nearly at right an les to the plate. An. eraser 5 made of rub er or other suitable material, is secured on the plate by means of an eyelet 6. One end of the eraser bears against the lugs. The other end of the eraser projects beyond the opposite end of the plate as at 7. I also provide a band 8 of rubber or other suitable elastic material. This band is arranged at right angles to the plate and eraser and one side is secured between the plate and eraser by the eyelet, said eyelet also passing through the band.
To use the device either as a knife or as an eraser the forefinger of the user is passed Specification of Letters Patent.

. through the band, the device bein arranged with either the eraser or the Ma e projecting forwardly from the finger as desired. When the device is to be used for turning the leaves of a book and for other like purposes it is placed on the back of the finger at about the first joint and with the band around the front side of the finger. Owing to the friction exerted by the band on a leaf, when the device is thus used, the leaves of a book may be readily and very expeditiously turned. The device is also extremely usfful in counting papers, money and the li e.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The herein described combined knife and eraser comprising a plate having a blade projecting from one end thereof and also having lugs at said end, at opposite sides of the blade and arranged at an angle to and extending from the inner side of the plate, an eraser secured to the inner side of the plate, bearing at one end against said lugs and at the other end projecting beyond the opposite end of the plate and an attaching band of flexible material arranged at right angles to the late and eraser and having one side secure between them.
2. The herein described combination knife and eraser comprising a plate having a blade projecting from one end thereof and also having lugs at said end, at opposite sides of the blade and arranged at an angle to and extending from the inner side of the plate, an eraser secured to the inner side of the plate, bearing at one end against said lugs and at the other end projecting beyond the opposite end of the plate and an attaching band of flexible material arranged at right angles to the plate and eraser and having one side arranged between them and an eyelet passing through said plate, band and eraser and securing them together.
In testimony whereof I affix'my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GUST ANDREW SANTO.
