The magazine 5) is fixed to a suitable frame 14 and the magazine 10 isfixed to a frame 15, these frames 1-1 and 15 being preferably secured together and provided toward their upper end with a pair of brackets 16 and toward their lower end with a bracket 17. The brackets 16 are pivotally suspended from a transverse rod 18, the ends of the latter being supported by a frame composed of a pair of arms 19 and a transverse tie rod 20. The arms 19 are mounted on the shaft 3 and are adapted to swing forwardly or rearwardly between the arms 3 and about the shaft 2 as an axis when it is desired to carry the magazines to or from the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4 to enable the magazines to be changed. Ordinarily, however, the arms 19 and the arms 3 are united or connected as one part by pins 21 which are removably inserted in registering openings formed in overlapping lugs on the respective arms.
Guides are provided for conducting m atrices from the distributer to the respective magazines. In the present construction, two sets of guides 22 and 23 are shown leading from the distributor to the magazines 9 and 10 respectively. The receiving ends of the two sets of guides preferably alternate beneath the distributor bar 7. To facilitate removal of the magazines when the latter are swung into the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4., these guides are preferably carried by a frame or bracket 1H which is hinged to the magazine frame 15 at 25 whereby the frame or bracket 24 together with the guides may be swung into a position clear of the upper ends of the maga zines as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4, thus enabling the magazines to be removed and others inserted with facility. A spring, .26 is shown for holding the guides in operative or inoperative position. A roller 27 is mounted on one of the magazine frames and is arranged to engage the under side of a foot 28, the latter being formed as a rear ward extension on the lower end of the arm 4. This roller normally remains in constant -engagement with the foot 28 and thereby maintains the distributing mechanism in fixed operative relation with the magazines.
The bracket 17 toward the lower end of the magazine frame 15 is provided with a roller 29. which is arranged to cofaperate with a cam 30. This cam is rotatably mounted on the shaft 2 and provided with a crank arm 31 which is connected by a link 32 to a crank 33, the latter being fixed to a shaft 34. this shaft being jenrnaled in suitable bearings 3.3 and 36 mounted on the stationary frame of the machine. The combination of a plurality of magazines shift-able bodily to bring any one of them into operative position, distributor mechanism shiftable with said magazines and having a constant relation therewith, and an elevator for conveying matrices to the distributor mechanism, said elevator compensating automatically for the different positions occupied by the distributor mechanism.

The combination of a plurality of shiftable magazines, and a distributor common thereto and shiftable therewith into different positions, and an elevator for conveying matrices to the distribifier and having yieldable operating means whereby it may stop in diflerent positions according to the positions occupied by the distributor.

In combination, a pair of matrix containing magazines mounted on a movable supporting frame, guiding means for said frame adapted to bring the magazines alternately into operative position. a powerdriven member, and intermediate clutchcontrolled connections between said powerdriven member and the guiding means, the guiding means being operative to remove one magazine from operative position and to automatically position another magazine for operation.

In a machine of the class described, the combination with a pair of magazines each movable to and from operative position, means for removing one of said magazines from operative position and bringing the other magazine into operative position upon each actuation thereof, power mechanism for actuating saidmeans, and a stop device for automatically interrupting operation of said means when the latter has com pleted each actuation to position the desired magazine for operation.
10. The combination of a pair of magazines, means for alternately removing one magazine from operative position and bringing the other magazine into operative position, means for bringing said magazines alternately into operative position by successive movements of said means in the same direction, mechanism for actuating said means, and a stop for automatically arresting the movement of said means after each actuation thereof to position the desired magazine for operation.
11. The combination of a plurality of magazines, a movable frame supporting them, means for shifting said frame to bring one or another of said magazines into operative position, a power-driven member, a clutch adapted to connect said member and said shifting means, manually operative means for engaging said clutch, and automatic means for disengaging said clutch when the desired magazine reaches operative position.
12. The combination of a pair of magazines, means for bringing said magazines alternately into operative position embodying a shaft having successive partial revolutions in the same direction, power mechanism for imparting sucoessivesspartial revolutions to said shaft, and a stop for automatically arresting rotation of said shaft when the desired magazine reaches operative position.
13. The combination with esca-pement actuating mechanism, of a plurality of magazines, each carrying escapements and shiftable alternately into cooperative relation with said escapement actuating mechanism,
means for shifting the magazines to remove one from such operative position and to bring another into operative position, and a driving device for said means for operating the same in predetermined relation and en1- bodying means for automatically arresting the operation thereof when the desired magazine has reached operative position.
14. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a plurality of magazines, distributer means therefor, a swinging frame supporting the magazine, a swingin support supporting the distributor, an means detachably connecting said swinging frame and support whereby any one of said magazines may be brought "into operative position and the distributer maintained in constant relation with said magazines, said swinging frame when disconnected from said support serving to carry the magazines into position for removal.
