ATTACHMENT FOR PAYING-MACHHES B m rm.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.-
' Application filed November 24, 1915. Serial No. 63,282.
State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Paying-Machines or the like,
of which the following is a specification.
In the practical use. of machines of the M type designed for paying out money it is ordinarily necessary to handle quantities of pay envelops into which wages may be placed directly, and an object of this invention resides in the provision of a handy attachment for such machines in the form of a holder or shelf adapted to contain a pile of envelops, or the equivalent, located at a point very convenient to the operator of the machine.
In the carrying out of the invention an additional object has been to design the attachment holder with a view to simplicity of its construction, the readiness with which it may be placed into or removed from position on the machine with which it is used, and also with a view to the adjustment of its position as may be most desirable and convenient for the operator.
While the invention is particularly useful for the purpose above set forth, it is obvious that a holder of the kind referred to is equally well adapted to be used in connection with adding and other machines to hold tickets or similar articles that may have to be consulted or otherwise used in connection with the particular operations registered on the machine.
The invention is illustrated in the accompaying section B and the adding'or registering section C, the machine being supported upon a conventional type of stand D.
" The holder attachment of the invention is shown at E and is preferably located at a point about intermediate the adding and paying sections of. the machine A so that the envelops 1 arranged in the holder will be convenient to the lefthand of the operator,
while the machine itself will be operated by his right hand.
Describing the attachment specifically it Wlll be noted that the holder E consists of a shelf-like holder or receptacle having the back 2 and the bottom 3, the envelops 1 being of course disposed on the said bottom. Suitable sides 4 are provided for the holder and consist of plates cut away to lend lightness to the whole structure, said plates having bottom lugs passing through the bottom 3 of the holder and rear edge lugs passing through the back 2 and suitably bent to properly assemble the structure. The back 2 and bottom 3 of the holder are preferably made integral, consisting practically of an angularly shaped plate, and the sides l connect these portions of the holder in a bracing manner, as will be obvious.
Each side 4 of the holder is formed with an upwardly extending bracket arm 5 having the rearward extension 6 projecting at an angle thereto. At the angle formed by the parts 5 and 6 each bracket arm has a seat 5' conforming with and adapted to fit against the adjacent tubular horizontal member of the stand D. At the rear terminus of each seat 5' is an engaging lug 5" engaging in rear of said horizontal member of the stand so as to eliminate likelihood of accidental displacement of the holder once disposed in position.
The extensions 6 of the arms 5 project beneath the base of the machine A and are formed with engaging projections 5 adapted to directly engage with the under side of the said base. The greater the weight of the contents of the holder E the more firmly it is positioned in interlocking relation with the machine A and its supporting stand D, both of which coiiperate to maintain the holder from displacement. Furthermore, owing to the arrangement of the holder it is obvious that it may he slid lengthwise of the machine while the arms 6 are received between the machine base and the stand so that the attachment may be positioned most handy to the operator.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. Aholder attachment for money paying and like machines, the same comprising an angular shaped plate one portion of which forms a back and another portion forming a bottom, and spaced sides connected with the back and bottom, each side being formed with an upwardly projecting arm having a rearward extension, said arms having support engaging interlocking means on their upper and under sides.
2. A holder attachment for money paying and like machines, the same' comprismg a back, a bottom, and spaced sldes connected with the back and bottom, each side being formed with an upwardly projecting arm having a rearward extension at an angle thereto, said arms having support engaging seats in their under sides, a projection ex tending downwardly from each rearward extension of the arms "and located at the rearmost portion of its seat, and an upwardly arranged projection at therear extremity of each rearward extension aforesaid.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a holder attachment for money paying and like machines, the same consisting of an angularlyshaped plate, a portic1 of which constitutes the back of the holder attachment and another portion of which constitutes the bottom, and sides in spaced relation connecting said portions of the angularly shaped plate and formed with upwardly and rearwardly inclined bracket arms, each bracket arm having a rearward extension provided on its under edge with a seat and adownward projection adjacent to said seat.
4. In combination, spaced horizontal members, and a holding attachment for envelops or the like, the same comprising a back,bottom and sides, the sides having upwardly and rearwardly extending bracket arms formed with portions seated on and inter looking with one of said horizontal support;
ing members and extensions of said arms engaging beneath the other of said members and interlocking with the latter to prevent accidental displacement of the attachment.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HENRY D. HOFFMAN.
