Description

[UNITED STATES PATENT PREVOST AND ADRIEN RABLAT, OF NEW YORK,N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN MAGNETIC SCISSORS.-
Specification forming of Letters Patent N o. 119,177, dated September 19, 1871.
To all whom 'it may coi/wem:
Be it known that we, EMILE PEEvos'r and ADRIEN EABLAT, of the city, county, and State .being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, which drawing represents an elevation of our invention.
This invention relates to scissors which are magnetized either by a permanent magnet or by an electro-magnet.
In carrying out our invention we take by preference scissors, A, made of good steel throughout and Well tempered, since they will be able to retain the magnetism for =a longer time than common scissors made Wholly or partially of Wrought or malleableiron. By drawing the scissors repeatedly across an electro-magnet or across a permanent magnet they become charged with magnetism, which they retain for a long time.
The advantage of our magnetized scissors over ordinary scissors is that the same, even when used continuously for a long time, actually form a relief to the person handling the same, while ordinary scissors, when used for several hours in succession, produce a nervous excitement, particularly with persons of tender nerves. Besides this, our magnetized scissors possess a mechanical advantage, inasmuch as they can be used with great convenience forpicking up needles which may drop down upon the floor. The dificulty of picking up a needle with the fingers is Well known, but by means or our magnetized scissors this difficulty is completely overcome. As soon as the scissors are brought close to the. needle to be picked up said needle adheres thereto and can be readily raised from the floor and returned to the table or cushion.
What. We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-Y As a new article of manufacture, the magnetized scissors herein described.
This specilication signed by us this 10th day 0f July, 1871.
