Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. HAGEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Zabrislrie, in the county of Inyo and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Calendar-Watches, of Which the following is a specication.
My invention is an improvement in calendar Watches, and the invention has for its object to provide a ring capable of attachment to the ordinary dollar Watch in such position that it will encircle the dial and will be rotatable on the Watch case, the ring bearing on its outer face the days of they months in sequence to permit any predetermined day to be brought into register with one of the numbers of the dial, as for i11- stance, l2 to indicate the day of the month.
In the drawings: Figure l is a front view' of a Watch provided with the improved calendar, and Fig. 2 is an edge vieW of the Watch with the ring in section.
The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with the case l of a Watch of usual construction having the ring 2 and the stem set 3. The crystal t of the watch is held in the usual ring 5, which is connected With the body of the case in the usual manner, and the ring permits the dial 6 to be seen.
The improvement comprises a ring 7 of suitable material, as for instance, metal, Celluloid, or the like, the said ring being curved or arched transversely as shown and being approximately the frustum of a cone. At the large end the ring is provided with a laterally extending flange 8, which is adapted to engage over the ring 5, as shown, to hold the ring 7 in place. The diameter of the small end of the ring is approximately kthat of the dial, so that the numbers 8 of the dial and the graduations 9 Will not be hid den by the ring.V The outer surface of the ring is divided into equal spaces by transverse lines l0, Which are formed in any suitable or desired manner, and a series 11 of numerals is arranged in the spaces. These numerals indicate the days of the months from one to thirty-one, and they are arranged consecutively, the Idesignation of one day of each month being in one of the spaces. The ring 7 is varranged to rotate on the Watch to permit any numeral or group of numerals to be brought into register with the indication l2 on the dial, and this indication is taken, as a rule, as an indicator for coperating with the ring.
Since the greater portion of Watch owners Wind the watch once a day, it Will be easy to remember to move the ring Whenever the Watch is Wound and the owner thus has a record of the day of the month, Which, if he is careful to move the ring Whenever he winds the Watch, Will be absolutely correct. In those months having thirty days or twenty-nine days, the ring Will be moved from thirty to one, or from twenty-nine to one on the last day of the month.
The improved Watch is especially suitable for prospectors, miners and other travelers to Whom the ordinary calendar is not accessible. The ring is arranged to snap over the crystal ring 5 tightly enough, so that vit Will hold, and may yet be turned.
I claim In combination, a Watch provided With a bezel and having an annular bead, and a' calendar attachment, the same consisting of a ring to overlie and t close against the bezel and provided at its outerl edge With a flange to engage the bead and retain the attachment in place, said ring being arched and provided on its face With radial lines forming thirty-one regular sipaces Which receive numbers in successive order from one to thirty-one inclusive corresponding to the. days of the month, said ring being rotatable JOSEPH E.
