To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT A. Former, acitizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hydrocarbon-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hydro-carb on burners.
The object of my invention is to provide a hydro-carbon burner, which is of novel construction, which is cheaply manufactured, is efficient in operation, which will economically burn crude oil or kerosene without the production of smoke or soot, and which may be readily appliedto the top of an ordinary wood or coal burning cook stove.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view,
partly broken away, of my improved burner. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, partly broken away, on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view on the line 47 1 of Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates a horizontal plate, which, preferably, is an ordinary stove lid pro vided with a vertical opening 2 and adapted to fit in a lid hole in a stove top 3, a portion of which is shown in Fig. 2.
Secured at their lower ends to two tubular vertical projections 4 of a horse-shoe shaped casting 5 are two vertical tubes 6, on the upper ends of which are mounted a horizontal member 7, which is provided, with two passages 8, respectively communicating with the tubes 6, and which respectively terminate closely adjacent to each other, in downwardly extending portions 9, Fig. 4, which discharge downwardly through the opening 2 and against a drip pan 10.
Preferably, the downwardly extending portions 9 ofthe passages 8 inclined downwardly toward each other, so that the jets discharged therefrom will impinge against each other. I
Mounted on the plate 1 are vertical tubes 11 which at their upper ends support a horizontal plate 12, which is disposed above'the member 7. Tie-bolts 13 extend through the plates 1 and 12 and through the tubes 11, the lower ends of the tie bolts being provided with nuts 14 and their upper ends with heads.
Two conductors 15 for respectively supplying water and oil communicate respectively with two passages 16 which respectively communicate with the tubes 6 through the casting 5 and tubular projections 4:.
The water and oil passing through the conductors 15 respectively enter the passages S and the member 7 by way of the passages16', tubular projections 4 and tubes 6. The water and oil is discharged downwardly through the tubes 9 in the form of vapor generated by passage through the heated casting 5. As the water and oil vapor mingle together and pass through the opening 2, they mix with air and combustion takes place below the plate 1. The heat from the flame heats the casting 5 and the plate 1. Heat from the latter is conducted through the air and by means of the tubes 11 and bolts 13, to the plate 12, which imparts its heat to any vessel placed thereupon and also to the connecting member 7.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made withoutdeparting from the spirit of my invention.

A hydro-carbon burner comprising a horizontal plate having a vertical opening therethrough, two tubes extending vertically through said plate at opposite sides respectively of said opening, and a connecting member mounted on the upper ends of said tubes and provided with two passages respectively communicating with said tubes, said two passages terminating closely adjacent to each other and discharging downwardly through said opening. g,

A hydro-carbon burner comprising a horizontal plate having a vertical opening therethrough, two tubes extending vertically throughsaid plate at opposite sides respectively of said opening, and a connecting member mounted on the upper ends of said 'tubes and provided respectively with two passages connecting with said tubes, said two passages terminating closely ad acentto each other and discharging downwardly and toward each other through said V spaced apart and having at their edges at" v all sides a lateral entrance between themfor air, the upper'plate being imperforate, and the lower plate having a vertical opening therethrough, spacing tubes between the plates, tie bolts extending through the tubes and said plates for securing the plates together, two tubes extending upwardly through the lower plate, and a connecting member between the plates and mounted on the upper ends of said two tubes and having two passages respeotively'connecting with said two tubes, said passages terminating closely adjacent to each other and discharging downwardly through said opening.
