RIBBED TUBE-MILL LINER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J une 20, 1916.
Application fi1er1 March 22, 1916. Serial No. 85,829.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH S. PETER- SON and WALTER B. ROGERS, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Smuggler, in the county of San Miguel and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Ribbed Tube-Mill Liner, of which the following is a full, clear and exact description.
Our invention relates to tube mills comprising a shell and a shell liner having longitudinal wear members or ribs on the interior. In the usual form of mills of this class, the liner sections are cast or otherwise formed integral with their ribs, that .is to say, the ribs on each liner section are integral with said section and removable only with the liner section.
In accordance with our invention we provide liner sections and each section has longitudinal ribs or wear members individually removable to renew the same, the'said liner sections and their respective attachable ribs having a mating formation to effect the detachable connection of said ribs.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is an end of a tube mill liner embodying our invention; Fig. 2 is a detail lone gitudinal section on the line 2-2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3, Fig. 2.
Our improved liner includes a permanent shell liner 10 preferably formed in segmental sections, there being three segments shown in the present instance. The liner segments are united at the longitudinal meeting edges in any suitable manner as, for instance, by pins or keys 11.
Each longitudinal wear member or rib 12 of each section is removably held in place on said section. Toeffect the connection, longitudinal holding ribs or beads 13 are formed integrally with each segment of the liner, and the wear ribs 12 have corresponding grooves 14 to receive said beads 13.
Preferably, the beads 13 and grooves 14;
have a slight pitch or inclination in the direction of rotation of the mill as indicated by the arrow, Fig. 1, to efiect an interlocking of the beads and ribs to better resist the strain exerted on the ribs 12 by the material being operated upon. To positively fasten a rib 12 to its holding rib or bead 13, we employ a pin or pins 15 fitting in mating depressions in the said bead and rib as indicated in Figs. 2 and 8. It will be observed in Figs. 2 and 3, that a portion of the side of the rib 12 is cut away, forming a lateral opening 16 communicating with the longitudinal groove 14 to permit entrance and removal of the pin or pins 15. We have shown two pins 15 in Fig. 2, one at each side of the opening 16, but one pin usually-answers in practice.
By the described construction it will be clear that any individual rib or wear member 12 may be readily removed when worn and the ribs may be renewed at any time without renewing the liner segments, said liner segments being thus essentially permanent, since the wear is mainly received by the members 12. When desired, however, the liner segments may be removed bodily with their full complement of wear members 12.
Having thus described our invention we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A liner for tube mills including a shelllike permanent liner body having holding ribs thereon at the interior, wear ribs having longitudinal grooves received in the said holding ribs and formed with lateral openings communicating with said longitudinal grooves, and pins locking the said wear ribs to the holding ribs at the respective side openings.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
