To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that I, PERRY E. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States of America, and
resident of Chanute, in the county of Neosho and State of- Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric- Fan Deflectors, of which the following is a provide an air deflecting device of the character indicated having novel means for at-' tachment to a fan'guard that the said defiecting means may be carried by the guard regardless of whether the guard is on an oscillating or a stationary fan A still further object of this invention is to provide current deflecting means having novel means for retaining the deflecting means at different positions of adjustment with relation to the guard and with relation to each other.-
Witlithe foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

As shown in the drawing, the horizontally and vertically disposed rods may be bent to be interwoven or interlocked with thewire structure of the frame or'guard 8, thus making it possible to readily apply and re v move the deflector supports to fans of ordinary construction-or to or from the guards thereof.

have ears-15 bent to form eyes to receive the vertically disposed rods 9 and as the upper ear 15 rests on the upper horizontally dis-l posed rod ,10, the blades are supported in properposition and are swingingly mounted on thesaid vertically disposed rods so that they may move to different angular relations tothe,front of the fan. It is apparent from the foregoing description and from -an inspection of Fig. 3 of the drawings that the angles of the deflecting blades with relation to the. guard or the fan determines the degree of distribution or; concentration of the air currents according to the adjustment of the said brakes. The blades are provided with means for holding them in different positions of adjustment, the said meansconsisting of a brace comprising the sections 16 and 16 having their outer ends connected by the pivot 17 and. their inner ends connected by the pivots 18 to cars 19, it being understood that one ear 19 is carriedby each of the blades. The sections 16 and 16 have pivoted joints 20 and 21 respectively, so that by breakingthe joints, the length of the brace maybe increased or 'di- .minished for the purpose of retaining the deflecting blades and greatly varying the positions at which the said blades are fastened or held for the purposes intended. As shown in the drawing, the ears 19 have angular portions 22 constituting'bases which are fastened to the blades and, as stated, the braces are pivotally connected to the said ears.
The manner of applying the blade carrying rods tothe guard or frame of an ordinary fan is well illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and further detailed description of the method or mode of operation is-believed unnecessary. It has been found in practice that by the device forming the subject -matter of this invention, air currents may be diverted so as to distribute the current of ail over a large area and that by changing the angle of the deflectors or vanes, the width of the air current may be varied.
As-shown' in Fig. 5 of the drawing, the deflecting blade or "ane 23 may be of curved formation and when of such construction,
the convexed sides of the blades are tobeplaced facing each other.
I claim j 1. In a deflector for air currents from fans, the combination with a fan frame, of horizontally and vertically disposed rods crossing each other, said rods being secured at their points of intersection, the said bars being interlocked withthe bars of the guard, deflector blades having ears oscillatingly mounted on the said vertically disposed rods, said ears being in engagement with one of the horizontally disposed rods, whereby the blades areheld against movement longitu-' dinally of the said vertically disposed rod, and a brace forretaining the deflectors at different positions of adjustment.
