s'ocKE'r.
To alli/whom t may concern;
Be it known that I, DAVID citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding in Newv York city, county and State ofv New York, have invented an Improvement' in--Sockets, of which the followingV description, inconnection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters von the parts.
drawings representing like mum" resistance to shearing may be' obtained with comparatively small amount of metal: g 1
A further object of the invention is to improve the facilities for attaching these .sockets to'f concrete forms when the latter are bein assembled.
One ormof socket embodying my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
F gure 1 is a vertical section on the dotted line Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view Fig. 3 is a view similar toFig. 1 illustrating thin.
form of device intended for use the concrete body is comparatively g f Referring al Figs-15nd sof the drawings the socket there illustrated is seen to comprise ahollow shank portionv 1" having an -open inner end adapted to provide a flanged top-2 and an interior-ly threaded v. outer vend `3. Extending across the interiori of the shank is a partition 4 to prevent concrete ,entering the open inner end from clogging i 40'1hethreaded end. :The socket isprovided,
preferably ati'or near its outer end with fastening means, 'shown asintheform of latl erallyextendlng ears'or projections 5 having notchesadapted to receive nailsor other fastening means for securing Ythe socket to concrete forms or,otherwise 1n po` sition forembodimentin the concrete as in- .l breakin up nicanedin dotted lines, Fig.,1 The @ars 5 "positioned slightly in from the :construction havinga threaded end, inte- A'riorlylocated means for resisting shear, and v a transverse partition between the threaded are' shown end of-th socket. V'To 4protect them lfrom on securing them in position yto' 'the forins, they are re'spectively l provided I. wit-hlugs 'that project so that their outer ,-?'su11faces,fare in a plane with thei'outer end 55,

'or'thle' like willbe transmitted by the said lugs directly to the form or support upon which the socket rests and will 'not tend to break or damage the securing ears. It will ldisplacement from or in the concrete mass.
The flange is further strengthened in its inner face by annularl locking ribs 10 which .hold of the -.concrete upon the socket.
In Fig. 3, I have shown av shorterl socketr better adapted'for use in thinner masses ofconcrete. "This socket may be used vertically, horizontally or otherwise andfinilieu of the'threaded portion 3 there may be provided ator :near its outer end any other desired attaching means by which to attach the member desired to'be secured to the concrete.l
My invention, herein described, makes it I possible to materially reduce the weight and resultant cost of sockets without diminish-` ing their tensile strength, and at' the same time, increase their gripping power and resistance to sheariii the concrete. My invention, furthermore, is not Vlimited to the precise embodiment here shownior purposes of illustration, but contemplates a free substitution of elements performing similar functions.
I claim vas 'my' inventionvzI- 1. A hollow attaching socket for concrete construction, having both exteriorly and interiorly located .means for resisting shear,
-the hollow in said socketopening toward the rearjto permit said interidrly located means to Aexert i a tensional vstrain upon the con- '-2 crete back of the socket, whereby the shearresisting tendency of vthe socket is greatly 2; A hollowattaching socket'for concrete end and the said shear resisting means',the

.of metal.`
to exertv a tensional strain upon the'com crete back of the socket, whereby the shearresisting tendency of the socket is greatly increased Without any substantial increase of metal.
3. A hollow attaching socket for concrete construction, having athreaded end, a flanged endprovided with interorly projectngannular ribs and a transverse partition between the threaded end and the flanged end. l
4. hollow socket for concrete construction having eXteriorly located means normally adapted to produce lines of shear in the concrete surrounding the sides of the socket, and interiorly located .means adapted to exert tensional strain in the concrete behind the socket, thus moving the lines of shear farther back in the. concrete andl greatly increasing the shear-resisting tendcncy of the socketn In testimony whereof, have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
