Specification of Letters Patent. 1
Application filed May 29, 1915; Serial No. 31,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLnros PARO, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Savv- Clamps, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in saw clamps, and it is an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the saw, when engaged with the clamp, may be readily adjusted to different angles whereby the sharpening of the saw may be accomplished with greater convenience.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement'of the several parts of my improved saw clamp whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of a saw clamp constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the lower extremity of one of the clamping members as herein set forth; and Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the second clamping member as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a plate provided with an arm 2 terminating in an angular extension 3 through which a clamping member 4 is adjustably disposed to afford a convenient and effective means whereby my improved device may be anchored in an operative position.
The plate 1 at substantially its axial center is provided with a threaded opening 5 in which is adapted to be adjustably engaged the clamping screw 6 having the free extremity of its shank reduced in diameter to afford the annular shoulder 7, said reduced portion of the shank serving as a mounting for the disk 8 loosely resting on the plate 1 and adapted for axial rotation around said clamping screw 6, the annular shoulder 7 of said screw affording a means whereby said disk may be maintained against axial rotation.
The disk 8 has projecting outwardly therefrom the diametrically opposed standards 9 of predetermined length and suitably connecting the outer extremities of said standards is a disk 10 disposed angularly relative to the disk 8 and preferably at an angle of about degrees, and said disk 10 is provided at substantially its axial center with an opening 11 through which is loosely disposed the clamping screw 12 adapted for threaded engagement with the circular boss 14 carried by one of the clamping members 15 of my improved device. By this arrangement, it will be perceived at once that the clamping member proper is capable of axial adjustment about the clamping screw 12 and that said clamping screw, through the medium of the annular shoulder 16 carried thereby and adapted to bear against the under surface of the disk 10, maintains the clamping member 15 against rotatable movement.
The clamping member 15 is substantially T-shaped in form and has the free extremity of its stem 17 bifurcated and pivotally engaged within the curve afforded by said bifurcation as indicated at 15 is the second clamping member 18 also of substantially a T form and coacting with the clamping member 15 in a conventional manner for operatively maintaining a saw in proper position and the stem 19 of the clamping member 18 is provided at a point intermediate its length with an opening 20 through which the clamping screw 21 is loosely directed, the shank of said clamping screw be ing adapted for threaded engagement with the opening 23 produced in the stem 17 of the clamping member 15, for a purpose which is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my present invention appertains.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a saw clamp constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience Patented A r. as, rare.
and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as required by the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a plate provided with anchoring means, a disk, rotatably supported by the plate, a clamping member coacting with the disk and plate and serving as a mounting for the disk, standards extending outwardly from the disk, a second disk connecting the outer extremities of the standards, said sec- 20 0nd disk being angularly disposed relative to the first named disk, a clamp rotatably supported by the second disk, and clamping means coacting with the second disk and the clamp, said means also serving as a 25 mounting for the clamp.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
