Description

vv. C. HARVEY.
BABY JUMPER.
APPLmATmm man Novx 5. 1914.
WILLIAM CLYDE HARVEY, OF ADAIR, IOWA.
BABY-JUMPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. Lt, 1916.
Application filed November 5, 1914. Serial No. 870,495.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HARVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adair, in the county of Adair and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Jumpers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to baby jumpers, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a baby jumper which will be comfortable for the child, 'and which will support the child in a position to barely touch the floor with its feet and to move slightly up and down, thus teaching the child to walk. i
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device in use, and F ig. 2 is a rear elevation of the vest or garment to be worn by the child to be connected to the jumper. j
Referring to the drawing, the numeral'l designates a vest provided with arm-holes 2, front overlapping portions 3, said overlapping portions being provided with buttons l and button-holes 5. Extending down the back of the garment is a flap 6 provided with button-holes 7, said flap adapted to pass up between the legs of the child and to be buttoned on to the buttons 4, after the flaps 3 have been connected. The shoulder straps 7 of the vest are each provided with a leather loop 8, and connected to each loop is a metal ring 9.
The jumper comprises a cross bar 10 having rings or screw eyes 11 connected one at each end thereof and secured to each of the eyes 11 is a strap 12, said straps being adjustable by means of a buckle 13 to give the proper length and a snap hook 14 is secured to the free ends of said straps to be connected to the rings 9. To the center of the cross bar 10 is connected a screw eye 15 and a. spring 16 is connected to said screw eye and a rope or cord 17 is connected to the opposite end of spring and adapted to be attached to the ceiling by means of screw eyes 18. A child having the vest or garmentconnected thereto and the flap 6 brought between the legs and buttoned on at the waist line can be suspended without discomfort and without the possibility of injury, the feet of the child just barely touching the lioor so that as he kicks out, the jumper will pull him slightly upward and in use the child will soon become accustomed to using his feet and legs which will aid him materially in walking.
Slight changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as delined in the claim.
What is claimed is z- A baby jumper comprising a vest with arm holes therein, said vest provided with overlapping portions, buttons secured to the lower edge of one of said overlapping portions and in horizontal and spaced relation to each other, the other overlapping portion provided with button holes in the lower edge and arranged in horizontal and spaced relation to each other and adapted to receive the buttons on the irst mentioned overlapping portion, a flap formed on the lower edge of the vest and adapted to extend between the legs of a child and provided with button holes in the free ends thereof, and said button holes in horizontal and spaced relation to each other and adapted to receive the buttons of first mentioned overlapping por.- tions, and means for supporting the vest in a suspended position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
