To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK Cook, a citizen of the United States, IQSldlIlg at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented'certain new anduseful Improvements in Garment- Supports, ofwhich the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in abdominal supports and desirable appendages connected therewith, and its object is to provide a combined abdominal and gar-- ment support that will become readily adjusted to the position of the wearer without strain or discomfort to the wearer.

I attain these objects by the construction and arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 indicates a front view of a human form with my appliance in place, and showing the relative position of the back straps of the stocking supporter. Fig. 2 indicates a front view of a human form showing how the shirt bosom is held in place. Fig. 3 is a back view of my appliance as it should appear on the wearer. Fig. 4 shows a side view of the appliance as it appears upon the wearer sitting down. Fig. 5 is a side view of the .same with the wearer standing.

In the construction of this support I make the front portion, 1, of the belt much broader than the back portion 2 so it may be made to act as a broad abdominal support, and the portion 2 is temporarily connected with the portion 1, as at 13. From 13 a strap 3 extends downward, on each side of the wearer, to the point 4, and from here to the dividing point of the members 8 is an elastic strap 6, on each side of the wearer. This would form a direct line of straps for supporting the stockings 7 7, but this alone would occasion discomfort to the wearer, especially when sitting down. To obviate this discomfort I attach two other straps 5 '5 to the straps 3 at 4 and lead them from these points'back and up to a central point at the center of the back of the portion 2 of the belt. 3,6 and 5 will always be held in such positions as to be perfectly comfortable and convenient to the wearer.

A third feature, and what I consider the most desirable and important feature in the invention, is the application of the straps 12, having buttons 10 at their ends and arranged to be buttoned into the button holes 11 in the shirt bosom 9, as indicated in Fig. 2. These straps should be made of an elastic ribbon so they may stretch to adjust themselves to the various positions of the body of the wearer without bringing too much strain upon the corners of the shirt bosom 9. These straps are so connected with the straps 3 3 that they will draw outward as well as downward upon the corners of the shirt bosom, so the bosom will be held straight and smooth, no matter what atti tude or position the wearer may assume.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. In a garment supporter, a broad faced belt having anarrow back portion, straps extending downward from the sides of the belt and terminating in elastic supports for stockings, other straps connected with the first named straps some distance below the v belt and connected together, and the two connected with the belt in the back.

2. In a garment supporter, a belt forming an abdominal supporter, non-elastic straps cletachably secured to the belt at the sides curing the lower ends to stockings, straps secured to the lower ends of the non-elastic straps and extended backward and upward and the ends secured to the center of the belt at the back of the wearer.

3. In a. garment support, a belt, straps secured to the sides of the belt and extending downward, elastic tapes secured to these straps and fitted to connect with the tops of stockings, straps secured to the first named straps and passing backward the ends secured together and both secured to the center of the belt in the back, and short elastic straps secured to the first named straps and provided with means whereby they may be secured to the lower corners of a shirt bosom to draw the bosom downward, connecting them with the lower corners of and outward from the center. a a a shirt bosom to .Vdraw the bosom -down-- 4.
