STRIP TICKET MACHINE.

I I I EDMUND BOKOB AND ERNEST GOLDBEBGEB, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
STRIP-TICKET MACHINE.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed April a, 1915. Serial m. 18,902.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, EDMUND Boxon, a citizen of the United States, and ERNEST GOLDBERG-ER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illino1s, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strip-Ticket Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mechanism for storing and vending tickets of the type printed continuously upon narrow strips of fabric and coiled upon a spool for delivery.
The main object is to provide a cheap,
, simple mechanism, having means for supporting the roll of tickets, combined with a device to cause separation of the strip at any desired point, and to leave the remaining strip end in a. position to be instantly accessible for further withdrawal and separation. This and other objects which Wlll become apparent are attained by the novel construebeing of uniform length and usually partially separated at their adjoining ends by V shaped notches, cross indentations or perforations, although not necessarily required in this machine.
Tickets of this type are generally numbered consecutively and also hear a serial designation so that an accurate tally may be kept and for further purpose of preventing imposture or counterfeiting; each ticket further indicating a definite value as the cost of a car ride, entrance to a show or the like, and such tickets are usually delivered under conditions that demand rapid and accurate action on the part of the person dispensing the same.
To facilitate these operations a stand is 13. Contained in these slots is the short shaft or hub end 15, of-the spool or drum 16,
coil being received between the standards 12; the loose or free end of the strip 18, is passed under the roller 20, set in the walls 11, and contacting with the inner surface of the base 10, extends outward to the front of the machine which is beveled rearwardly from the cutting edge 21, formed at the end of the'base 10.
Between the beveled side walls 11, is a pressure plate 25, the extreme front edge 26, of which is in register with the cutting edge 21, against which it is held under tension of the spring 27, the pressure plate being shaped to conform to the profile of the side walls 11, and pivotally secured to them by means of downturned integral ears 28, loosely riveted at 29, the plate being provided with a lever portion 30, which being depressed'causes the front or gripping jaw 26 to rise.
I An opening 32, is formed through the jaw and extends back into the plate 25, to a point registering with the rear edge of an elongated opening 22, formed in the base 10 rearward of the cutting edge 21. These openings are respectively formed to receive the thumb and finger of an operator in grasping and drawing forward the end of the strip ticket as successive lengths are torn off by forcing the extended ticket lengths downward across the cutting edge 21, the remaining strip being always held in engagement by the pressure plate edge 26. a
In order to provide sufiicient distance in which to manipulate the ticket in tearing it .away from the strip, a sub-base 35, preferably of wood, is used the same acting as a block or distance piece between the supporting surface on which the machine rests and the base 10, the latter being secured to the sub-base by any convenient manner, as by means of the cars 36 pressed outwardly from the side-walls 11, and fastened by screws to the block, which in turn may be fastened on any convenient surface.
In-operation, the roll being mounted on its supports, the loose end is passed under the roller and out under the pressure plate until its extreme end is in register with the cutting edge. When it is desired to deliver one or more tickets the strip is grasped between the fingers and drawn forward as far as may be desired, then by a downward twlsting motion the end is neatly severed and the machine is ready for another delivery.
While the device as described is very simple and highly efficient in operation,.we do not desire to beheld strictly to the exact construction shown, but may modify the same within the scope of the appended claim. 7/
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a strip ticket delivery apparatus, the
- combination with a fixed integral frame having vertical side walls open throughout at the top, ears formed with said frame whereby it may be secured to a support; roll supports formed with said frame at the rear end and standing thereabove, a roller revolubly mounted in said supports adapted to hold the strip adjacent to the bottom thereof, a tilting plate pivoted between the side walls at the front of said frame, said side Walls and supports acting as guides throughout for the passage of the strip, and a spring combined with said plate whereby its front edge is held normally in engagement with the extreme front end of said frame.
Signed at Chicago, in the State of Illinois, this eighteenth day of February A. D. 1915.
