Figure l is a sectional :view showing my improvement applied. asv a support for a front' view looking inthe direction of the arrow of Fig. l, and with part'of the construction broken away; Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig; l but showing the improvement applied as means for holding or securing a base board kfnishiiig strip )or molding and, Fig. 4 an inner or front view looking in the direction of the arrow m2 of Fig. 3 and'with part ofthe construction` broken away.
In the accompanying drawing, 'I have a-wall of `a room or compartment in a building and: ati?) I have shown the plaster applied to thewall, and said-wall may be composed o'f brick, concrete, 'wood or any other suitable material. VI'ha-ve also shown at c VAapicture'suspendingmoldiiig strip and at d a base board `finishing molding strip, the base board being shown at c, and said base board e maybe lformed from wood, fiber,
metalor any other material.`
In the practiceof my invention, I provideY a sheet metal attaching strip f having. converging .side plate members f2 provided with in Figs. l and 3. The top side plate member f2 is provided adjacent to the angle where itr connects with the attaching strip f with a longitudinal slot h, and lI also provide aV bracket'V attaching device z', a number of t whichzareemployed and formedfrom sheet metal, andy consisting of a forwardly and upwardly curved top plate' 2 having a forwardly and downwardly curved flangev member '713, andprovided at its bottom edge with two/ p arallell downwardlydirected spring tongues 4 between` which the top member 2 is provided with a back-set and 'downwardly directed tongue member 5 which is adapted to' be passed backwardly and downwardly through the slot lz., as clearly shown in Figs. l and 2, andV which holds they bracket attachingdevice i in firm connection with the attaching strip y, and also in firm connection withy the wall", and, inpractice, the strip. f is provided for each of the bracket attachingdevi'ces with a central hole f4, and the tongue 5 with a corresponding hcle anda nail j is passedV backwardly through the strip f and tongue 5 and into the wall, andtheobject of which is to prevent theV bracket attaching device or devices a froinfbeing moved upwardlyor islied wall, or flush with the plaster las shown is provided at the bottom` thereof with a backwardly and upwardly directed spring flange c2 and at the top thereof with a backwardly and downwardly curved flange c3, and in attaching fthe picture suspending moldingstrip c to the bracket attaching de# vices 11 said vstrip is vmanipulated so as to pass the flange'c2 at Vthe bottom thereof beneath the flanges or hook members 6, and the top edge of 'the strip c is'fthen. forced backwardly and the flange member c3 at the vtop edge'thereof passes over and engages the forwardly directed flange member 3. of .the
bracket attaching devices z' and this securely locks the strip c in position, as will be readily understood, and in suspending pictures from said strip the suspending cords or chains connected with the pictures are provided with hooks which are passed over or engage with the top of the molding strip c in the usual manner.
In Figs. 3 and 4l I have shown my improvement applied as a means for attaching the top molding and finishing strip al of the base board e, and this construction is the same as that shown in Figs. l and 2, except that in Figs. 1 and 2 the top plate 2 of the bracket attaching device or devices z' is set forwardly to form a longitudinal space between it and the wall or the plaster o ofthe wall, but in Fig. 3 the top plate 712 of the bracket attaching device or devices c' ts against the wall, or the plaster b, and the bottom front tongue members 4 of the bracket attaching device or devices 2' are extended forwardly further than in Fig. l.
