M. E.`BURNS.
HEAD ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED ma. Ir. I9I5` MARGARET E. BURNS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HEAD ATTACHMENT.
S1 eeicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan.
Application filed March 17, 1915. Serial'No. 14,984.
To NZZ 'ir/20m it m .f/z/ concern Be it known that I, MARGARET E. BURNS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ef the citv of Chicago, county of Cook, and
State of Illinois. have invented certain new and useful Head Attachments, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to a certain new and useful head attachment adapted for use in treating and caring for persons suifering from headache, the object ofthe invention being to provide a simple and emcient attachment of this character ivhich may be readily applied and Which Will give relief.
' T he invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 4
The invention vvill be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
V Figure l is a view of an attachment embcdying my invention and shovvn in position of use, Fig. 2, a perspective vie\v of a head band employed in the construction, shovvn detached and With portions broken away for the sake of clearness, Fig. 3. an enlarged seetion taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. o
stantially line 1t-4 of Fig. 2, and Fig. an enlarged sectional view illustrating the method of attaching a head cap, employed in the construction, to the head band.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing comprises an annular head band 6 made of cloth or other suitable iiexible material and in the form of a' channel member open at its top. A plurality of flexible hot Water bottles T are arranged in band 6, said bottles being positioned. as indicated, so as to bring one of them directly over the forehead of the vvearer and one at each side of the forehead, as indicated. These hot ivaterfbottles; are substantially triangular in form and are provided vvith filling tubes 8 closable by means of clamps 9, as indicated, said hot water bottles being normally held in position in the head band G by means of strings l0 Which are tied together to fasten the adjacent edges of band 6 together and thus hol'd the Water bottles in place due to their triangular shape. Draw strings l1 are'also arranged at the rear of the band 6 at the tep and bottom thereof to serve as a means for adjusting the ign 1i, an enlarged section taken on sub-v length of the band to the head of the ivcarer, as ivill be readily understood.
A head cap l2 is detachabljv secured to the upper portion of head band t3 bj.' means of strings 13 Which are knotted. as shown, te effect such securing'. An ordinary ice container li is arranged in the head cap l2 so that ice may be applied to the top of the head of the vvearer ivhen desired.
lhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for car- .rying my invention into effect, this capable of variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avaii myself of such `Variations and modifications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my inventien vvhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device ofthe class described comprising a band adapted to encircle the head; a hot ivater container detachably mounted on said band; a cap detachably connected with said band: and an ice container in said cap, substantially as described.
9.. A device of the class described comprising a band adapted to encircle the head;
a plurality of hot vvater containers detachably mounted on said band; a cap detachably connected with said band; and an ice container in said cap, substantially as described. i
3. A device of the class described. comprising a band in the forni of a channel adapted vto encircle the head; and a het .vater container detachably mounted in said channel,
substantially as described.
i. A device of the class described comprising a band .in the forni of a channel adapted to encircle the head; a hot vvater container detachably mounted on said band; a cap detachably connected ivith said band; and an ice container in said cap, substantially as described.
device of the class described comprising a band in the forni of a channel adapted to encircle the .be-:iid: a plurality of hot vvater containers detac bly mounted in sa id channel; a cap detaehably connect-ed *with said band; and an ice container in said cap, substantially as described.
. A. device of the class deseribed coniadapted. to encircle the'head I a vplurality of hot Water containers removalolymounted in said-channel a cap detachablyronnected with said band an .-ice container iri sad cap aad meansior adjustingthe length of said band, substantially :1s-described, l
