Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 17, 1915. Serial No. 22,065.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD L. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and btate of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Cutters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cigar cutters and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a structure in which the parts can be completely finished and subsequently assembled after finishing.

A further object 01 the invention is to provide a cigar cutter in which the parts can'be stamped from sheet metal and in which the same can be assembled without the use of any tools whatsoever, or in other words by mere use of the hands.

A stillfurther object'of the invention is to provide a cigar cutter which involves in its entirety but three parts, thus enabling economical production and assemblage.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a side edge elevation. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section on'the line 4.4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a hollow housing 1 is employed which may be formed of a single plate of metal bent into the form shown in the drawings to provide a substantially rectangular interior contour, provided with the usual cigar tip receivlng openings.

The invention further embodies a member 3 having a finger receiving opening t and provided with passed through the housing 1 and the extent ,of movement of which is restricted by the provision of shoulders 6 which abut the adjacent end of housing 1. In assemblage, member 3 first has its legs 5 contracted and the latter then passed through the housing whereupon projections 7 will spring outwardly and engage the adjacent end of the housing thereby rigidly securing the member Sin the housing. claim as new and desire to'secure by Letters Patent llA'cigar cutter composed of a hollow housing having open ends and cigar tip receiving apertures, a member having a finger receiving opening and legs with shoulders at the inner ends of the legs, the legs being received in the housing and the shoulders abutting oneend of the latter, the free ends of the legs having outward Y projections adapted to spring outwardly and engage the opposite end of the housing, said legs having 7 stop shoulders on their side edges, and a second member having a finger receiving open- 7 and fingers on opposite sides of the cutter spaced therefrom, said fingers riding on the inner side edges of the legs and having outward projections which are adapted to engage the stop shoulders to limit the extent of outward movement of the last named member.

2. In a cigar cutter, a hollow housing having cigar tip receiving openings, a pair of finger engaging members, means to automatically and rigidly lock one of the members to the housing upon insertion into the latter, and means to automatically and movably connect the other member to the first named memberso as to allow same to have restricted sliding movement upon insertion into the housing.

In a cigar cutter, a hollow housing, a finger engaging member having spring means which upon insertion in thehousing is automatically locked thereto and a cutter bearing member having spring means to'automatioally lock the same within the housing upon insertion in the latter but to allow same to have a restricted sliding movement.

4. A cigar cutter composed of a housing and two finger engaging members one of which has a cutter, and means to automatically connect both of the-members relative to the housing upon insertion in the latter and to allow the cutter bearing member to have restricted sliding movement when in the housing.

A cigar cutter composed of a housing, a finger engaging member having means which upon insertion in the housing is automatically locked thereto and a second finger engaging element having means associated With the first named element restricting the sliding movement of the second element. 6. In a cigar cutter, a housing, a finger engaging element insertible in the housing from one end thereof, means to automatically lock said element to the housing upon insertion in the latter, a cutter member insertible in the opposite end of the housing, and means to positively and automatically connect the member relative to the housing but to allow sliding movement of said member upon its insertion in the housing. f 10. A cigar cutter including a housing, a finger engaging element, a cutter, and means whereby upon the element being positioned so as to enter the housing and upon relative movement between the element and housin the element will be automatically locked to the housing.
