GEORGE H. KENT, OF WATERTOVJN, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINATION-CARD FOR BANKING PURPOSES.
Application filed July 2, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. K NT, a citizen of the United States, residing in Watertown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Combination-Cards V for Banking Purposes, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on theidrawings representing like parts. 7 i This invention relates to a card system for banking, which is especially useful in stated intervals,'as for instance each week,
of the year, and drawsout the same during the month of December.
' The invention has for its object to provide a system in which the chance of error on the part of the bank is reduced to a minimum, and in which the work of keeping the accountsis also reduced to a minimum. To this end, I have provided a card, which is issued by the bank and is composed of separable members, one ofwhich is designed to be retained by the bank and the other by the club member or depositor.
For sake of distinction, one member of the combination card may be designated the banks card, and the other member the members card, and each card is provided with columns indicative of the months of a year, and each column is provided with sub-divisions or spaces having therein figures indicative of the amount to be deposited for the week corresponding to said spaces. The banks card is provided with a character in; dicative of the class in which the depositor is enrolled, and with a serial number to identify the card, and may and preferably will be provided with a space for an application ticket or slip having thereon the signature and address of the club member. The members card of the combination card is provided on its under side or surface with monthly columns and weekly spaces, corresponding to the columns and spaces on the banks card, and arranged, so that when the members card is superimposed upon the banks card, the said columns and spaces coincide, so that the amount deposited by the club member for each week may be simultaneously punched in both cards, which eliminates errors on the part of the Specification of Letters Patent.

bank. The members card on its reverse or under side is also provided with the card the liability of error on the part of the bank.
The particular features of the invention will be pointed out in the claim at the end of this specification.
Figure l is a plan view of a combination card embodying this invention with the application slip or ticket afiixed thereto. Fig. 2, a plan of the combination card with the members card folded over upon the banks card, and Fig. 3, a plan View of the combination card with the application slip or ticket removed therefrom.
Referring to the drawing, n represents the banks card and Z) the members card of a combination card embodying this invention. The cards a, b, are formed of one piece of board or sheet of paper or other suitable material, which is provided with perforations indicated by the heavy black lines 0, so that the members card Z) can be folded over upon the banks card a, for purpose of punching the same initially, and can then be separated therefrom and given to the depositor or member. T he banks card a is provided with parallel lines 10, which form a series of columns (Z, arranged transversely thereof and indicative of the months of the year, and said columns are subdivided into spaces 12 by parallel lines 13 extended lengthwise of the card. The spaces 12 are designed to have printed in them the day of the week on which the amount to be paid into the bank is due, and also numbers indicative of the amount to be paid on that day. The card is provided at the left of the spaces 12 with a margin 14 having printed thereon the serial number of the card, which in the present instance is 2005, which is also the members number and in the margin 14 is also printed the character indicative of the class under which the member is enrolled, which in the present instance is class 1 A. The card a is also provided at the top there of with a blank space 15, see Fig. 3, and with cuts or slits 16 for the reception of the 7 application ticket, slip or card 17 shown in Fig. l. The application card or slip 17 is separate from the combination card initially, and is designed to be filled out by the member when he or she makes application to join the Christmas club. The application card or slip 17 is provided with a class number and with the members number, and is provided with suitable lines for the name and address of the member. After the application slip or ticket 17 has been filled out by the applicant, it is passed to the bank othcial, who aihxes it to the card a of the combination card, by inserting the corners of the card in the slits 16. The club member deposits the amount due at the time the application is made, and the bank official folds the members card I) over upon the banks card a, and punches the space 12 having printed therein the amount deposited and the date of the deposit. Both cards, a Z), are "punched simultaneously, and when punched the card 6 is separated from the card a and handed to the member, who retains it as a receipt for the money deposited by him. The bank retains the card a and files the same away. On the-deposit day of the following Week, the member presents his card Z) with the amount to be deposited to the bank ofiicial, who selects the banks card at having the same serial number and also the same class number, and applies the card 6 to the card a after the manner shown in Fig. 2, and then punches the neXt space 12 in the column in which the space 12 has been already punched. It will be observed by reference to Fig. 2, that when the card 7) has been applied to cardv a the serial number 2005 and the class number '1 A on both cards are visible and can be compared by a glance,
and when compared, the payment or deposit is then punched simultaneously in bothcards. From the above description, it will 7 on the part of the bank olficials is'reduced to a minimum.
Claim:
A card of the characterdescribed, comprising a banks card provided with means for attaching thereto an application card, a members card,'and means for detachably securing said'members card to said banks card to permit the members card to be folded over upon the'banks card while'remaining attached thereto, the members card being narrower than the banks card to leave a portion of'the latter visible when the members card is superimposed upon the banks card, both of said cards having thereon identifying devices which are simultaneously visible when the members card is superimposed upon: the banks card.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two' subscribing witnesses.
