Be it known that I, ADOLPH N. PELLANT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Saugerties, county of Ulster, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aprons, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to aprons and more particularly to the class ofaprons used by employees of dairies, breweries, p acking houses, and by wagon washers, icemen, etc., and in general, in such work where it is important to have a durable, well reinforced apron constructed to properly protect the wearer.

One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a reinforcement for the part of the apron which receives most of the wear.

Referring to the drawing, 10 designates t-he body of the apron which is of the necessary length to cover the front and sides of the body of a person and has a narrow part serving as a bib portion 11 at the top. The bib is provided with suitable buckles 12 to receive and secure the ends of straps 13 attached at the rear of the apron and crossed over the back of the wearer to support the apron from the shoulders. edges of the apron about where the bib and lower part of the apron meet, may be provided for drawing the apron around the body of the wearer. A semi-circular reinforcing piece 16 is sewed to the body l0 approximately over that part of` the apron which covers the chest of the Ywearer or right below the bib portion 11 where the apron receives most of its wear. The semicircular edge of the piece 16 is sewed along lts curved edge to the body 10 of the apron and the other edge is free. A semi-circular band 18 is sewed to the body l0 along its outer edge at the row of stitches 19 and beyond the outer edge of the semi-circular reinforcement 16. The inner edge 2O of the band 18 is free and within the said edge are set a series of buttons 21 having round heads. The buttons 21 are spaced apart and in the present illustration I have shown five about 450 apart. The body l0 has a series of spring snaps 22 set therein in positions corresponding to the buttons 21, .the snaps 22 being provided with upstanding socket portions to yieldingly and releasably receive the heads of buttons 21.

A removable and `detachable reinforcement is provided which comprises a circular piece of material 23 `provided with a series of holes 211 within the circumferential edge thereof. The 'holes `2st are suitably reinforced with brass eyelets 25 and are of sufficient size to fit over the socket portions of the snaps 22 so that when the buttons 21 are sprung into engagement with the sockets of the snaps the reinforcing member 23 will be held in place. llt will be observed that the eyelets 25 are spaced exactly 45 apart around the periphery of the reinforcing piece 23, the same as the coperating securing devices 21, 22, thereby affording eight different positions in which the circular reinforcement may be adjusted. In many uses to which the apron is put there is a particular point at which it wears more than at any other and the reinforcement may thus be changed eight different times to provide a new place to wear, consequently the advantage of the apron is that it is equal to about eight ordinary aprons not provided with the adjustable reinforcement. When the circular reinforcement is worn out, it may be removed and replaced by an entirely new one and consequently the body part of the apron which receives much less wear, may be use yeo much longer. The semi-circular iiap 18 overlaps the upper edge of the circular reinforcing piece 23 when the latter is in place and makes it impossible for water or dirt to get in between the detachable reinforcement 28 and the body of the apron.

The apron and the detachable reinforcement may be made of plain or water-proof canvas or any other suitable material.

` It will be seen from the foregoing that I have devised a simple and durable apron which has a reinforcing piece readily adjustable and renewable. The free end of the band 18 which overlaps the reinforcing piece Q3 serves to shed the water and to prevent dirt from collecting beneath the detachable reinforcement.

It is obvious that numerous changes in the apron may be made without departing from the spirit of the'invention and it is therefore not intended to limit the same to the exact details as shown and described. l

Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is,

1.- In an apron of the class described, the

combination with the apron body, of a reinforcingpand protecting piece, means for vsecuring said piece to said body, said reinforcing and protecting piece being adjustable without reversal on the apron body to bring different wearing portions thereof into position to take the wear, and a band sewed to the apron` and having a free edge overlapping the upper edge of the reinforcing and protecting piece.

2. In an apron of the class described, the combination with the apron proper, of a curved band secured thereto along one edge, a circular reinforcing piece underlapping the edge'of the said band, and means for detachably securing the said j reinforcing piece in place on the apron.

3. In an apron of the class described,the combination with the apron proper, of a semi-circular band attached to said apron along one edge and having a free edge, co-l operating fastening means on said apron and on said bandand a circular reinforcing piece having eyeletsalong its edge, said coperating fastening means being adapted to fit the eyelets and secure the reinforcing piece to the apron in any one of a plurality of positions. f Y
