- Be it'known that I, Tiioims ODoNN-ELL, a citizen of "the United States, residing at Ironwood, in the county of Gogebic and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lainp sockets, of which the following is a specification.

within which is arranged a. metallic conducting element .40, preferably in the form of a spider, which is apertured for receiving the bolt and has electrical contact therewith. The cap 12 is provided with two or more sleeves ll, (only one beingshown), holding insulating rings 42. Arranged within the insulating rings .12 is a screw-threaded mo tallic sleeve 43, electrically connected by 1053 means of bolt or bolts 44 with the conduct- 5 ins; ring 37. This metallic'sleeve #13 is adapt ed for engagement with a screw-threaded socket 45 of an electric lamp 1-6. The opposite terminal of this electriclamp contacts with the head of a bolt 48, passing through the insulating support 32 and having electrical contact with the conducting element 40, as shown.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows When the switch Qlis turned whereby contact 16 has electrical contact with the contact element 17, a circuit is closed to cause the lamp or lamps to glow. In this closed circuit current flows from one pole of the source of current through wire 29, contactsorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim: v
1. In apparatus of the character described, the combination with a main insulating support provided in its upper end with a chamber, of a bracket arranged in the chamber, a rock-shaft journaled through the bracket, a contact element carried by the rock-shaft, a co-acting contact element arranged in the 3 chamber near the ,first named contact element and secured to the insulating support,-
means for connecting one pole of a source of current with the co-acting contact element, an auxiliary insulating support secured to the opposite end of the main insulating support, a plurality of conducting elements arranged between the main insulating support and the auxiliary insulating support and insulated from each other, a bolt connecting the bracket with one conducting element, means connecting the other conducting element with the opposite pole of the source of current, and contact elements carried by the auxiliary insulating support and electrically connected with the conducting elements and adapted for contacting with the terminals of an electric lamp, substantially as described.
2. In apparatus of the character described,
the combination with a main insulating support provided in its upper end with a chamber, ofa bearing arranged in the chamber, a rock-shaft journaled through the bearing. a contact element carried bythe rock-shaft, a relatively stationary contact element arranged within the chamber near the first named contact element, means for connecting the relatively stationary contact element messes with one pole of a source of current, an auxiliary insulating support arranged upon the lower end of the main insulating support, a bolt passing longitudinally through the auxiliary insulating support and the main insulating support to secure them together and engaging the bearing, a plurality of conducting elements arranged between the "main insulating support and the auxiliary insulating support with one conducting element engaging the bolt, means connecting the other conducting element with the opposite pole of the source of current, and 'c'ontact'elenjpntshaving electrical connection with the c nducting elements andcarried by the auxiliary insulating support for contacting with the terminals of an electric lamp, substantially asdescribed.
3. In apparatus of the character described, a main insulating support, an auxiliary insulating support disposed at one end of the main insulating support, a bolt passing 1ongitudinally through the insulating supports to bind them togethena plurality 'of conducting members arranged between the insulating support and insulated from each other with one conducting member engaging the bolt, means connecting the bolt with one pole of the source of current, means c0nnect-' ing" the opposite conducting member with one pole of the source of current, and con-' tact elements carried by the auxiliary insulating support and electrically connectedwith the conducting elements and adaptedto contact with the terminals of anelectric bulb.
4. In apparatus of the character described, an insulating support provided upon one .side with a chamber, switch means carried by one end of the insulatingsupport and embodying a plurality of contact elements, a bindingspost arranged within the chamber and having electrical connection with one contact element, a plurality of conducting members carried by the other end of the insulating support, a second binding post arranged within the chamber and electrically connected with one conducting element, means electrically, connecting the other conducting element with the other contact element, and contacts carried by the, insulating support and electrically connected with the conducting elements and adapted to contact with the terminals of an electric lamp, substantially, as described.
