ENVELOP.
Application filed April 14, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Grosnrrn CAMILLIERI, a citizen of Italy, residing at Chelsea, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to envelops and has for its object to provide a closure fastener for unsealed envelops.
Another object of the invention is to provide an envelop having a flap with a tongue and alining openings in the flap and envelop whereby the tongue may lace the flaps to the body of the envelop.
With the above and other objects in view,
I have invented the device illustrated in" the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a view of one side of the envelop showing "the flap closed and fastened,
Fig; 2 1s a similar view of the upper portion of the envelop showing the flap opened, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line A-A Fig. 1'.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification following and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates an envelop intended to be used more especially for transporting through the mails of pamphlets, circulars, samples, etc., but which may be used for other purposes, 2 is the upper edge of the side 3 thereof and/1 is the upper portion of the side 5. The flap 6 is intended to be folded upon the crease 7 whereby the slot 8 in said flap 6 will aline with the slots 9 and 10 in the sides or walls 5 and 3. Alining slots 11 and 12 are also provided in the walls 3 and 5. The tongue 13, integrally extending from the edge 14,. of the fiap 6 is adapted to be laced first through the openings .11 and 12 and then bent upwardly as at 15 and then passed through the alining openings 10, 9 and 8 in the order stated.
The tongue is then bent downwardly as. at 15 then passed a second time through the opening 11 where the end 18 thereof is turned from its horizontal path and directed to extend vertically between the walls 3-and 5 by means of the edge 16 of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1915.
Serial No. 21,393.
the slot 12 which extends slightly above the edge 17 of the slot 11. By pressing upon the folds of the tongue after it has been laced through the slot as explained in order to thoroughly crease the same, the tongue will be held secured in said folded laced position whereby the flap 6 will be held" closed without the necessity of sealing it with mucilage and securing it with paper clips, pins or the like.
Having now described my invention that Which I claim to be new and desireto procure by Letters Patent is 1. An envelo having a flap, an integral in alinement, and a slot in said flap alining with saidlast slots, and said tongue being adapted to pass through said last slot and be bent downward and then passed a second time through one of said first slots, and the edge'of one ofsaid first slots extending above the edge oftheother of said first slots.
2. An envelop having a flap, an integral tongue extending therefrom and slots through which said tongue is adapted to pass, said slots being in each wall of said envelop and alining, said walls having a second series of slots therein through which said tongue passes, and said last slots being in a inement, and a slot in said flap alining with said last slots, and said tongue being adapted to pass throu h said last slot and be bent downward an then passed a second time through one of said first slots, and the edge of one of said first slots extending above the edge of the other of said first slots, whereby said tongue will be directed between the Walls of said envelop.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature' in presence of two witnesses.
GIUSEPPE CILLIERI.
