To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES M. EMBREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corona, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Platforms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved window platform and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which is of very simple construction and which may be easily and quickly adjusted and applied to a window to afiord a platform or support upon which a workman may stand while washing the window panes.
The invention has for another and more particular object to provide adevice of the above character embodying a pair of supporting bars and a foot board adapted to be adjustably secured thereon, angular braces also adjustable at one of their ends on the supporting bars and adapted for engagement at their other ends against the wall, said braces being provided with adjustable abutment members in their latter ends for engagement with the window sill, and means adjustable upon the inner ends of the supporting bars adapted for clamping engagement against the inner face of the sill frame.
It is an additional object of the invention to provide an adjustable platform of the above character, the several parts of which canbe readily assembled in coiiperative relation to each other and are of exceedingly simple form so that the device, as a whole, may be produced at small manufacturing cost. 1
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through the sill of a window, showing my improved adjustable platform applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; Fig. 3 is an end view showing the manner of securing the device upon the inner face of the sill frame; Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4t1 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the angular brace bars and attached parts; and Fig. 6 is a similar view of one pair of the vertical adjustable plates carrying the clamping hooks. Referring in detail to the drawings, 5 designates a pair bars or rods which have one of their ends cylindrically formed and threaded, as shown at 6. Each of these bars is also provided with a series of spaced openings 7 for a purpose to be later explained. A foot board, indicated at 8, has spaced openings 9 therein adjacent each of its ends, to receive the clamping bolts 10 which have hooks 11 formed upon one end to embrace the respective supporting bars 5. These clamping bolts are threaded to receive the lever nuts 12 which are adapted to be threaded downwardly into engagement with the upper surface of the foot board, whereby the same is securely clamped in position upon the spaced supporting bars.
In mounting the device upon a window sill, I provide a pair of vertically disposed, threaded rods 13, each of which has a rectangular loop or cuff l4: rigidly fixed to one end thereof to embrace one of the supporting bars. Upon each of the threaded rods 13, a pair of spaced plates 15 are engaged, and theopposite ends of these plates are formed with threaded openings to receive the adjustable rods 16. Hooks 17 are formed upon one end of each of said rods. A rectangular sleeve 18 is also engaged upon the threaded end 6 of each of the supporting rods 5 and a nut 19, having a handle 20, is also threaded upon said rod. By turning the nut on the rod, the sleeve may be forced inwardly into engagement with the cuff on the rod 13.
In conjunction with each of the supporting bars 5, I employ a rectangular brace bar 21. Each of these brace hate is angularly bent adjacent to one end and extended at an obtuse angle with respect to the body portion of the bar, as shown at 22. Upon this bent end of the brace bar, a guide loop 23 is fixed at its extremities and embraces one of the bars 5. The other ends of the brace bars 21 are adapted to bear'against the face of the building wall when the device is applied in position. At a point intermediate of the ends of each bar 21, one end of a rod 24 is fixed and provided with a guide loop 25, as an additional guiding and supporting means for the bar 5. in which an abutment rod 26 is loosely engaged. A set screw 27 is threaded in the bar 21 whereby the abutment rod may be securely fixed in its adjusted position. For the purpose of preventing outward sliding movement of the angular ends of the bars 21 on the supporting bars 5, I provide the pins 28 which are adapted to be inserted through any one of the openings 7 in the bars 5. In
order to obviate mai'ring of the woodwork of the window frame, I provide casings of heavy canvas or leather, indicated at 31, upon each of the rods 5.
In mounting the window platform in position, the bars 5 are disposed in spaced relation in accordance with the width of the window, and the platform 8 secured in place thereon. The brace bars 21 are then adjusted along the bars 5 until their inner ends bear against the face of the wall and the abutment rods 26 engage at their upper ends with the bottom surface of the window sill. The spaced plates 15 on the rods 13 are then turned until the points of the hooks 17 on the rods 16 engage beneath the lower edge of the woodwork of the window sill on the inner side thereof. The nuts 19 are then threaded inwardly upon the ends of the supporting bars 5 to act against the sleeves 18 and force the upper ends of the rods 13 against the edge of the window sill. Thus, said rods are held against movement longitudinally upon the bars 5, and the clamping hooks 17 will maintain their applied positions. It will be understood that the platform 8 can be readily adjusted along the supporting bars 5 until it is suiliciently spaced from the building wall in order to suit the convenience of the user. The device may be readily removed and applied to another window by simply threading the nuts 19 outwardly upon the ends 6 of the supporting bars so that the hooks l7 can'be disengaged from the sill frame. The stop pins 28 are then removed from the outer ends of the bars 5, and the bars shifted outwardly so that the entire device can be raised and drawn through the window opening.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that the construction, manner of operation and several advantages of my invention will be clearly and fully understood. The several parts may be compactly assembled for convenience in transportation and can be readily set up in position for use and the relative adjustments of the several parts easily and quickly made. The foot board or the supporting platform 8 can, of course, be made of any desired In view of the simple form and construction of the several elements employed, it is further manifest that the invention can be produced at small manufacturing cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts, it is to be understood that the device is susceptible of considerable modification therein and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within'the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. r 1
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is V V j 1. A window platform including a pair of supporting bars, angular braces loosely engaged at one of their ends upon said bars and adapted for engagement at their other ends against t-heface of a building wall, removable stop pins to limit the outward movement of said braces upon said bars, a platform, means for clamping said platform upon the supporting bars to hold said bars in spaced relation, and means adjustably carried by the inner ends of the parallel bars forclamping engagement with the lower edge of the window frame. 7 g Y 2. A window platform including a pair of supporting bars, angular braces loosely errgaged at one of their ends upon said bars and adapted for engagement at their other ends against the face of a building wall, removable stop pins to limit the outward movement of said braces upon said bars, abutment members adjustably mounted in the latter ends of said braces for engagement with the bottom face of the window sill a platform, means for clamping said platform upon the supporting bars to hold said bars in spaced relation, and means adjustably carried by the inner ends of the parallel bars for clamping engagement with the lower edge of the window frame.
3. An adjustable window platform including a pair of supporting bars, angular brace bars loosely engaged at one of their ends upon the supporting bars, stop pins adjustable in the supporting bars to limit the outward movement of the brace members thereon, abutment rods adjustable in the opposite ends of the brace bars and adapted for engagement against the loot-tom face of a window sill, a platform, means for adjustably clamping the platform upon the supporting bars to hold the bars in spaced relation to each other, and means adjustably and detachably connected to the inner ends of the spaced bars for clamping engagement with the lower edge of the window frame.

An adjustable window frame including a pair of supporting bars, brace bars slidably engaged atom of their ends upon the supporting bars, stop members adjustable 'in the supporting bars to limit the outward movement of the brace members, a guide fixed to each of the brace members intermediate of its ends in which the respective supporting bars are mounted, adjustable abutment members mounted in the opposite end of each brace bar for engagement against the bottom face of a window sill, a platform, means for adjust'ably clamping the platform upon the supporting bars to hold the latter in spaced relation, and means detachabl} and adjustably engaged upon the inner ends of the supporting bars for clamping engagement with the lower edge of the window frame.
An adjustable window platform including a pair of supporting bars, a platform and means for adjustably clamping the platform upon said bars to hold the bars in spaced relation to each other, means adjustable upon the outer ends of said bars to brace the same from the face of a building wall, the opposite ends of said supporting bars being threaded, vertical rods engaged at one of their ends upon the latter ends of the supporting bars, a pair of spaced plates threaded upon each of said Vertical rods, clamping members adjustable in'each pair of said plates for clamping engagement with the lower edge of a window frame, and means threaded upon the ends of the supporting bars to clamp the upper ends of the vertical rods against the window frame.
