To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CURTIS Home, a citizen of the United States,resid1ng at- Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Mechanics Trestle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. a
This invention relates to a mechanics trestle, and an object of the invention is to provide a trestle of this nature having col lapsible legs, which, when thrown open into supporting position, clamp a trough-shaped member, which in'turn holds the work supporting beam.
In practical fieldsthe details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the improved trestle in position ready for use and constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the legs collapsed. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal. sectional view. Fig. l is an end View showing parts in section.
Referring more especially to the draw ings, 1 designates an elongated troughshaped member, in which a work supporting beam 9. is secured, as shown at 3 by the screws. The angularly disposed legs 4 (which are angular in cross section) at each end of the trough-shaped member are pivotedtogether at their upper ends as shown at 5. The pivoted ends of the legs are cut away as shown at 6 to form the clamping lugs 7 and 8. The clamping lug.
7 of one leg at each-end of the trough-shaped member is bolted at 9 to one side of the trough-shaped member, and when said legs are thrown open as shown clearly in Fig. 1 the lug 8 cooperates with the lug 7 to clamp the trough or U-shaped member securely-in position. The legs 4 at each end of the trestle are connected by the links orbraces 10, which are angular in cross section and pivoted together as at 11, each link or brace 10 is in turn pivoted at 12 to each leg. The invention having been set forth, what isclaimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, an elongated troughshaped member, a beam secured therein, a pair of legs pivoted together at their upper ends, each being angular in cross section, one of said legs beyond its pivotal connection withfthe other leg being fixed to one side of said trough-shaped member, the other leg beyond'its pivotal connection acting to engage and disengage the other side of-the trough-shaped member, to permit said legs to collapse and permit one leg to be thrown to one side free of an obstruction, said legs diverging laterally and downwardly and having their lower vdiverging portions provided with connections consistingof brace sections, the central portion of the-troughshaped-member having a pair of ears, two pairs of braces pivotally connected between said ears, the braces of each pair diverging downwardly,laterally and toward their respective legs and connected to the same.

In combination, an elongated troughshaped'member, a work supporting beamsecured'therein, a pair of legs at each end of the trough-shaped member and having their upper ends pivoted together and diverging downwardly, said legs being angular in cross sectionand having their upper pivoted end portions cut away forming oppositely disposed clamping lugs between which the U-shaped member is clamped, one of said '10 with the substantially central portion of the trough-shaped member and diverging down- Jvardly and laterally and connected to the lower divergingpart of said leg.
