HAT-BOX.
ASpecification of Letters Patent.
Patented Ilot. 19, 19115.
Application filed January 25, 1915. Serial No. 4,307. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT I-I. IIOLBRoox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arcadia, in the county of Oklahoma and i State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iat- Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hat boxes, ldesigned more particularly for use in holding ladies hats, in millinery stores, or in clothes closets in the households, and one of'the principal objects of the invention is to provide a hat'box having a hinged top cover and a hinged side cover so that the box when placed on a shelf with other articles or boxes on top of the same may be readily opened at the front or side of the box without disturbing the other boxes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a box having atop cover by means of which a hat may be placed in the box from the top without disturbing the side or end cover, and when it is required vto remove the hat from the box, the end or side cover may be opened without disturbing the articles or boxes on top of the box containing the hat.
rIhe foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is perspective view of a hat made in accordance with this invention and shown closed, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hat box with bothtop and side covers opened, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line3-3of Fig. 1.
Referring tothe drawing, the numeral 1 designates the bottom .of the box, 2 is one side, 3 is the other side and 4 is the back of the box. The top cover 5 of the box is connected by means of fabric hinges 6 to the sides 3, and stop tapes 7 are secured to the cover 5 and to the back 4 of the box to limit the outward throw of the cover.
end is connected to the cover 5. rIhe front cover 10 of the box is provided with angularly. bent side members 11 and connected to these members are tapes 12 which extend up and out through openings 13 in the side mem-v bers 2 and 3, and when the cover 10 is up in closed position, the tapes 12 are tied in a bow lmot as shown at 14. A
The top cover 5 is provided with a slot 15 in the downwardly extending flange 16 and a similar slot 17 in the top portion, and a tape 18 extends through said slot and around the box and is connected by means of a knot or bow 19 at one side of the box.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that the hat box can be manufactured at com-V paratively low cost, is reliable and etlcient for its purpose, can be opened on top for placing the hat therein and opened on the side or front when it is desired to remove the and a rear wall, a cover hinged to one end off the side walls, a front wall hinged to the bottom, angular bent side members formed integral .vith the front wall, a cross piece securedto the front upper edge of side walls, flexible members secured to the brace and to the rear wall; tape members secured to the angular bent side member of the front wall, said tape members extending through slots in the side walls, the free ends of said tape members being adapted when tied together to secure the front wall in* a closed position.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
