ROD-COUPLING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SALEM R. HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Pawnee and State of Oklahoma, haveinvented-certain 7 new and useful Improvements in Rod-Couv bodiment of my inventio ed, respectively, with the male plings, of which the followingis a specification, reference being hadto the accom panying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in rod couplings and hasrelation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and 1 adapted for use in connection with suction rods or the like; and the object ofthe invention is to provide a coupler of this character having novel and improved means whereby the same may be readily connected or disassembled, as the occasion may require, with a minimum of labor and within a minimum of time.
-The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved rod coupling whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Thenovel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same, with referenceto the accompanying drawings,- Wherein V Figure l is an elevational view illustrat ing a rod coupling constructed in accordance with my invention; F ig. 2is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of- Fig.
1; and Fig.8 is a fragmentary view, partly in elevation and partly in section, of the female member included in the present em As disclosed in theiaccompanying draws- J ings, 1 denotes coacting sections of a rod, the adjacent extremities whereof being providmember 2 and the female member 3.
- Specification of Letters Patent,
the upper extremities tension adapted to be OKLAHOMA.
As herein-set forth, is bifurcated with the the kerf 5 being substantially vi-shape while the female member 3 of the kerf 5 wardly disposed shoulders 6, the lower edges 7 7 whereof being substantially Veshape in elevation and being undercut, as indicated :at 9. l I v The malememberf2 is provided with the flattened elongated extension 10 adapted to be accommodated within the kerf 5 and hav- PatentedOct; 19,1915. Application filed November 28, 1914. Serial 1\ To. 874,563. .1
lower extremity 4 of a K of the opposed Walls are provided with the in-1 I ing its free extremity-provided With a sub- 1 stantially V-shape head 11, the-upper edges 12 whereof being also substantially V-shape in form 1 and undercut, and adapted to interlock with the shoulders 6 whereby it will be perceived that an effective connection is created between the memas indicated at 14,
bers'2 and 3; It is thought that the man- J ner of assembling or disconnecting the members 2 and 3 is clearly apparent to thoseskilled in the art to which my present invention appertains.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a rod coupling constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature larly well adapted for use convenience and facility by reason of the with which it may be assembled,
A rod coupling consisting of a female, vmember having one extremity bifurcated, the free extremities of, the opposed walls prov'ided'with inwardly disposed shoulder's,'the lower edges of which of the kerf being a being substantially and a male member provided with an exaccomm'odated within and is particuandit will also beobvious ,7 .that my lnvention is susceptible of some change and modification without material'- the principles and spirit V-shape :and undercut,
the kerf of the female member, the free extremity of the extension being provided signature in the with a head having its inner faces substanmember.
Copies of this patent may 10 Witnesses e obtained for fiye cents each, by addressing wshingtoii; D. 0;
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my presence of two Witnesses,
