Description

UNITED STATES; PATENT OFFICE.
' GEORGE HOPIP, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY-TREAD AND METHOD. OF PRODUCING THE SAME.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon Horr, a citizen of the Umted States of America, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx 5 and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Treads and Methods of Producing the Same, of which the following is a specification.
10 The present invention relates to safety treads and has for its object to provide a safety tread which will be harder, tougher and more durable than the hitherto used treads.
1 To accomplish my object I mix under suitable pressure and temperature some abrasive material such as carborundum with phenolic condensation bodies, such as conensation products of phenolic bodies with 20 formaldehyde or with anhydrous hexamethylene tetramin, which mixture is applied as a layer on a suitable base which may be of metal, any textile material, rubber or rubber composition, and treated un- 25 der suitableconditions of temperature and pressure.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed April 22, 1914. Serial No. 833,808.
Patented Oct. 12, 1915.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A safety tread consisting of a base and a layer composed of abrasive material and a :"1 phenolic condensation body.
2. A safety tread consisting of a metal base and a layer of abrasive material and phenolic condensation body.
3. A method of producing a safety tread as consisting in mixing an abrasive material with phenolic condensation bodies, applying a layer thereof to a base, and treating the whole under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure. 4
4. A method of producing a safety tread consisting in mixing abrasive material with phenolic condensation products, a plying a layer thereof to a metal base, an treating the whole under suitable conditions of temperature and pressure.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE HOPP.
Witnesses:
