ALLEN r. WAGNER, or rnnnnnroxsnune, rnnnsvnvnivm.
TRESTLE non. CARPENTERS use.
down or collapsible trestle wherein the sun'- porting beam or body thereof is detachably secured to the legs, the latter being arranged in such a novel and peculiarmanner as to collapse beneath the said body and thus facilitate transportation of the device.
A further object of the invention contemplates the provision of a device of this character wherein the cross beam may be de tachably connected to the supporting legs,
this arrangement permitting the former to be removed and renewed should occasion demand without destroying the legs or supports as heretofore. r
The invention still further resides in the provision of means including a plurality of engaging heads formed upon one extremity of each of the said supports or legs for engagement with the sides of the cross beam to support the latter against lateral as wellas longitudinal movement during the application of the invention.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, described in the following Specification and then more particutill larly pointed out in the appended claims forming a part of this application. a
In describing the invention in detail, ref-- erence will be had to the accompanying' drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustratinga portion of a trestle, the dotted lines indicating the collapsed position of the leg. support; Fig. 2 is an end view of the trestle, a part thereof being shown in section, the dotted lines indicating the pivotal movement of the said supports; and Fig. 3 1s .a perspective view of the support means'compnsmg my invention. v

the drawings, I desire to call particular attention to the fact that while I have evolved my invention with particular reference to its application in connection with carpenters tre'stles,'the same can be readily utilized for supporting various other devices wherein itis desired that a collapsible sup port should be provided therefor.
Referring now to the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the cross beam or body or that portion of the trestle to which the support means comprising my inventionis detachably secured. But one end of the said beam is illustrated in the drawings as a support for the opposite end is made in duplicate to the-slipport means shown; therefore it is thought that an illus tration thereof will be unnecessary. The said support means comprises a plate mem ber Q'having an extension 3 formed integrally therewith and upon one end thereof, the said extension projecting upwardly at right angles to the said plate member 2 and having projecting therefrom, upon its inner face, a plurality of sharpened or pointed elements at adapted for engagement with the end of the body 1,.as illustrated to advantage in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The opposite end of the plate member 2 to that upon which the extension 3 is formed is provided with anintegrally formed sleeve 5 through which a. spindle 6 extends, the latter terminating at each end in a forked member 7 between the arms of which duplicate legs or supports 8 are pivoted as at 9. The upper end of each of the said legs 8 has secured thereto in any suitable manner, an engaging head member 10, the inner face of which is provided with pointed or sharpened elements 11 disposed for engagement withthe side of the body 1 to maintain the latter, with the elements 4: above mentioned, against lateral as well as longitudinal movement independent of its supporting means.
To maintain the legs 8 in spaced relation and to prevent spreading of the engaging ing my invention, the plate member 2 is first attached to the body 1 of the trestle by forcing the elements 4 into the end of the said body as shown. After fastening the plate member 2 in the manner above set forth, the legs 8 are swung into perpendlcular or upright position, the lower extremities of the said legs when thus positioned being forced widely apart to. cause the elements 11 of the engagingheads 10 to pierce into the sides of the body 1 and thus maintain the said legs in the said upright position. As the legs 8 are forced apart, the arms 12 and 13 assume the position illustrated in Fig. 3,
thereby locking the support against accidental collapsing and preventing the re-' moval of the elements 11 vfrom the said body 1.
If desired, a set screw 18 may be provided for engagement with the under face of thebody 1, the said screw being carried by the plate member 2 to maintain the inner end thereof in engagement with. the said under 'face of the body during the operation or unfolding of the legs 8.
It will be seen from-the above, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that the support means may be collapsed or knocked-down by forcing the arms 12 and 13 into the position indicated by the dotted lines in. Fig. 2 and then swinging v the said legs 8 from their pivot point 9 thereby causing the elements 11 to disengage the body portion 1, whereupon the said legs and the elements carried thereby may be swung upon the same plane as the plate member 2 and parallel with the said body 1.
It will be understood that the above description and the accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that variposed for engagement with one end of the beam, a pair of pivoted support members carried by the said plate member at the opposite end thereof from that of the said extension, engaging heads carried upon one extremity of. the said support members, the said heads being disposed forengagemen't at the sides of the said beam, and means including arms pivoted to the said support members for maintaining the heads thereof in engagement with the said beam, as and for the purpose set forth.
- 2. A trestle beam support including a under face of the beam, an extension formed integrally with the said plate member upon one end thereof, ,the said extension being disposed for engagement with one end of the said beam, a pair of duplicate support members pivotally secured to the said plate member, engaging heads formed upon one end of the said support members, the said heads being disposed for engagement with the sides of the said beam, arms pivotally secured to each of the said support members and means carried by one of the said arms adapted to engage the other of the said arms for locking the said support members with their heads in engagement with. the said beam, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A trestle beam support including a plate member, a right-angled extension at one end of said plate member, means upon said extension for detachably fastening said plate member to said beam, legs mounted upon said plate member at the opposite end thereof, said legs being adapted for pivotal movement bodily and in unison longitudinally of said beam, said legs being independently pivoted to move laterally with respect to each other, and means formed upon one extremity of each of said legs, said means being engageable with said beam, for
plate member directly engageable with the I detachably fastening said legs rigid and in adjusted forth. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
