GLAZIERS TOOL.
r ,ieaoea Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. '3', 1915.
Application filed September 4, 1914. Serial No. 860,270.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK W. MCDER- MOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rawlins, in the county of Carbon and State of Wyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glaziers Tools, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to glaziers tools and more particularly to glass cutters, the
object of the invention being to provide slmple and efiicient devices for cutting glass in circles or rings of any size.
Another object of the inventionis to provide a device of the character described in which the bearing will be tight when the device is in operative position, irrespective of the wear thereon.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application,
and in which:
Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the head. Fig. 4 is a similar view taken at right angles to Fig. 3.
eferring more particularly to the draw ing, '1 represents a circular disk slightly concaved on its under side, as shown in Fig. 3, and provided with a pad of any suitable friction material 2 such as rubber or the like which is adapted to engage the glass and hold the support against movement while the device is in o eration. Projecting vertically from the di is a circular boss 3 havlng a central recess 4 and a ball race 5 I in 1ts upper face which surrounds the recess. Seated within the recess is the grooved projection 6 projecting longitudinally from one end of the bearing head 7 which has a ball race 8 formed in one end and surrounding the projection 6. Balls 9 are arranged in the ball races 5 and 8 and the projection is secured in the recess 4 by means of a set screw 10 which engages the groove therein so as to ermit turning of the head upon the boss 3. he upper end of the head 7 is provided with a ball race 11 and a grooved projection 12 correspondingto the projecto enter .a recess 13 t1on 6 and adapted ressure head 14. This presformed in the sure head is a so provided with a'ball race 15 and a set screw 16 for engagin the groove in the projection 12. Balls 1 are received in the races 11 and-l5, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
The head 7 is provided with a transverse slot 18 gradually decreasing in height from its outer ends to a point intermediate the width of the headto form knife edged fulcrumed points directly in alinement with the longitudinal center of the bearing head 7, as shown, and adjustably mounted within this slot between the fulcrumed points is a graduated sweep arm 19 having a lateral notched cutter receiving head 20 on its outer end. A cutter of any suitable character is held in the notch by means of a set screw 21 and the sweep arm is held in adjusted posi- 7 by means of It will be noticed in the operation of the 7 device that when pressure is applied to the head 14 to hold the support firmly on the glass that the bearings'are also held tight.
at is claimed is 1. In a glass cutter, a support having a friction pad upon its bottom, a pressure head, a bearing head rotatable within and between said support and pressure head, said bearing head having a transverse slot of gradually decreasing height from its outer ends to a point intermediate of said head to form a knife edged fulcrumed point directly in alinement with the longitudinal center of said base and bearing head,a sweep arm fulcrumed upon said edges and longitudinally removable through said slot, and clamping means carried by said bearing'head.
In a glass cutter, head, a bearing head rotatable in and between said support and pressure head, said bearing head having a transverse slot of graduallydecreasing height from its outer ends to a point intermediate the width of said head to form a knife edged fulcrumed point, a sweep arm disposed between said points to permit vertical .movement of its ends and means carried by for locking'said arm agamst movement.
In testimony whereof I in presence of two witnesses.
G. S. MURPHY, H. Bnm'mnsrnm.
