To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH RAU and WINCE RAU, citizensof the United States, residing at Fayette, in the county of F ayette and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inStock- Feeders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stock feeders, more particularly to devices of this character employed for feeding calves and like young animals, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the eiiiciency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention istoprovide a simply constructed device divided into a plurality of independent feeding compartments and a supply compartment, and wherein provision is made for supplying each of the feeding compartments withan equal amount of the feed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device divided into a plurality of feeding compartments and a supply compartment and a plurality of controlling valves between the compartments, and means for automatically actuating the controlling valves to permit the feed to pass from the supply compartment into the feeding compartments.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction ashereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention. i
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved device with the hinged closure in position; Fig. 2 is a plan view without the hinged closure; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Fig 1; Fig. 4: is a transverse section on the line H of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all of the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved'device' may be constructed of any suitable material and of any required size and divided into any required number of feeding compartments, and also with a supply compartment of any required size,

The improved device comprises a troughlike structure 10 closed at the ends, as shown at 11 12, and provided with a plurality of four of the feeding transverse partitions 18, with one of the pan the trough, whereby an opening 19 is formed through which the feed is supplied to the compartment 14.
Each of the partitions 13 is provided with an opening 20 at its lowerside to permit the feed to pass from the compartment 14 to each of the smaller compartments l5. Hinged at 21 to each of the partitions 13 is a controlling valve 22, each valve being preferably provided with a spring 23 to hold it yielgtably closed over the adjacent openmg Mounted for rotation through the casing 10 at the upper portion of each of the smaller compartments 15 is a rock-shaft 24: having a crank 25 atone end externally of the casing and with an arm 25 depending from the shaft internally of the casing and engaging at its free end in a link 26 connected respectively to the valves 22. The cranks 25 are coupled together by an operating bar 27 so that the shafts may be actuated simultaneously by motion applied to the bar 27. Pivoted at 28 to the casing 10 is an operat ing lever 29, and connected between the lever 29 and the bar 27 is a rod30. By this means it will be obvious that the valves 22 may be simultaneously actuated by simply manipulating the lever 29. Preferably an inclined longitudinally extending bottom 31 will be located within the feed supply compartment 14 and provided with a depending terminal 32, so that all of the feed will pass into the smaller compartments 15, and so that none of it will be retained in the larger compare ment 14L. Suitable-supporting feet 33 are arranged beneath the trough, as shown.
It will thus be obvious that a, simply con-i structed device is produced, which maybe inexpensively manufactured and of any ref quired size or capacity.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 'is:- Y

In a stock feeder, a trough divided by partitions into a supply receptacleand a plu V rality of feedingreceptacles and having ing receptacles having communicating open ings and said supply receptacle having an openlng communlcatmg with one of the feeding receptacles, a controlling valve for' each of said openings, and means for simultaneously actuating said valves.
8. In a stock feeder, a trough divided by partitions into a supply receptacle and a plurality of feeding receptacles and'having -7,saidopen1ngs, a separate shaft extending through each of said feeding receptacles and each provided with a crank arm, an arm eX- tending from each of said shafts and engaging said valves,-a bar connected to said crank arms, and means for actuating said bar to simultaneously actuate said shafts and cause the simultaneous operation of the'valves;
4. In a stock feeder, a trough divided by partitions into a supply receptacle and a plurality of feeding receptacles, each of said partitions having an opening, a closure for said feeding receptacles and extending partly over the supply receptacle, a control-' lingjvalve for each of said openings, and means for simultaneously actuating said valves.
