SEAT FOR WINDOW-SILLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 31, 1915.
Application filed July 27, 1914. Serial No. 853,403.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY H. PAUL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at W'ilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Seats for Vindow Sills, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
This invention relates to seats for window sills and has for its object to provide a device of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby the seat will be fixedly secured with the sill so that the seat will project outward with respect to the sill.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a seat for window sills including adjustable means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, to provide for the fixedly securing of the seat to the sills of windows of different widths and heights.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a seat for window sills which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use, readily set up and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is an inverted plan View, broken away, of a window sill seat in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes a longitudinal cylindrical member, constituting a support, and which is provided at its outer end with peripheral threads as at 2, and at its inner end is formed with a downward extension 3, which is peripherally threaded as at 4.
The reference character 5 denotes a platform, having depending horizontal flanges 6, 7, the former being of greater height than the latter. The member 1 extends transversely with respect to the platform 5 and centrally thereof, and further through the flanges 6, 7. Normally the member 1 projects outwardly from the flange 7.
Secured to the lower face of the platform 5, near each end thereof, is the upper arm 10 of a brace member and said arm 10 is disposed in parallelism with respect to the member 1 and furthermore is fixedly secured to the lower face of the platform 5 by holdfast devices 11. The arm 10 is of a length less than the width of the lower face of the platform 5 and is disposed centrally with respect thereto and said arm 10 at its forward terminus merges into a downwardly extending, inclined arm 12, which at its lower end merges into a vertically disposed arm 13.
Adjustably connected to the arm 13, by a bolt 1e and a nut 15, is the vertical leg 16. of an angular abutment member. The horizontal leg of said abutment member is indicated at 1.7.
Mounted upon the threaded outer end of the member 1 is an adjusting nut 18.
The reference character 19 denotes an anchoring member formed with an inward extension Q-O, provided with a vertically disposed opening 21 which has a threaded wall and adjustably engaging with said threaded wall is the thread extension 13. The anchoring member 19 engages under the sill, within the room, and carries cushions on protecting devices 22 which prevent the sill or the wall being injured. The flange 6 is also provided with cushions or protecting devices 23 to prevent the marring of the window sill.
The nut 18 provides for the adjustable positioning of the platform 5 upon the member l and in connection with the sill when the nut 18 is screwed home, prevents shifting of the platform 5 upon the member 1.
The brace members constitute supports for the platform when the latter is secured to the sill.
hat I claim is 1. A window sill seat comprising a threaded supporting member having a depending threaded extension, an anchoring member having threaded engagement with said extension, a platform adjustably mounted upon said member, an adjusting nut carried by the member and engaging the platform and brace members secured to said platform and depending therefrom.
2. A window sill seat comprising a threaded supporting member having a de mounted upon said member, an adjusting nut carried by the member and engaging the platform, brace members secured to said platform and depending therefrom, a vertically adjustable angle shaped member carried by said brace members. 3. A window sill seat comprising a platform provided with depending flanges, brace members secured to and depending from the lower face of said platform, a longitudinally threaded member extending through and projecting from said platform and having depending threaded extension, said brace members including Vertical arms, adjustable angle-shaped members carried by said vertical arms, an adjusting nut carried by said longitudinal member and engaging one of said flanges, and an anchoring device having threaded engagement with said extens1on.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
