To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, RALPH L. HILL, a

citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Orlando, in the county of Logan and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Mail-Box, of which the following sa specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in mail boxes, one object of the invention, being the provision of a box, which is readily adapted for use in connection with all classes of mail matter including the parcel post, thus accommodatingyletters and large packages within a single inclosure. I

A further object of the present invent1on is the provision of a mail box, ha ving a telescoping member, by means of which the capacity of the box may be increased and thus permit the use thereof in connection with the parcel post as well as Wlllll other classes of mail.

With the foregoing and other objects in 1 view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is'claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete mail box, the same being in collapsed positionwith the doors closed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the main casing, which is rectangular in cross section and is reinforced at its rear edge by means of the inverted U-shaped angle iron frame 2 provided with the projecting ends 3,'each of which consti tutes a foot rest for the rear of the box. A rod is extended across the adjacent edge of the casing 1 near the ends 3 of the reinforced frame 2 and has disposed thereon several rollers, only one as at 4: being illustrated, and the purpose of which will presently appear.

Reinforcing the front open end of the casing 1 is a similar shaped frame 5, whose terminals 6 constitute the front rests for the mail box. The member 1 as shown is open at both ends, there being telescopically fitted therewithin from the rear end, a reccarrier.

by means of which such casing may be moved'relatively to the surrounding casing 1 to increase ordecrease the capacity of the box. The lower; portion of the casing 7 rests upon the rollers 1 so that the same may be readily moved relatively to the casing 1.

To the front ofthe casing 1 for closing the same is connected one door 9 which is hingedly connected to the adjacent side of easing 1 as at 10 by means of portions being punched alternately from the edge of the door 9 and side of easing 1. The edges are turned back and riveted and a wire run down through the remaining alternate parts forming the hinge and the door is provided with the inturned flange or lip 11 which is adapted to grip upon the upper edge of the frame 5 and thus assist in holding the door closed. A similar door 12 is hingedat .13 to the opposite sides of easing 1 in same manner as door 9 and is provided with a lip ,or flange 14-. Carried by the door 9 is a cleat 15, which guides the free end of the pivoted locking member 16 which is connected at 17 to be carried bodily by the door 12. A guiding cleat 18 is attached to the door 12 and through it the locking member 16 projects. The member 15, as is also the member 16, is apertured as at 19 so that the usual pad lock may be attached thereto.

In order to provide a means to permit of the introduction of mail through the closed door 12, a plate 20 is punched therefrom to provide the slot21, the same being inclined so as to prevent the rain and snow from afiecting the contents.

Attached upon the inner side of the door 12, to be carried bodily thereby, is a letter receptacle 23 which is slotted to provide the outstanding lip or shelf 22 for the support of the coin receptacle 24:, a band 27 being attached to the letter receptacle 23 and sur rounding the coin receptacle 2% to maintain the same in proper position upon the lip or flange 22. Mounted within the receptacle 23 is a spring clip 25, the same being attached to the inner side of the receptacle 23 and pressing against the opposite side of receptacle 23, said clip also extending above one side of the receptacle 23 for the purpose of holding letters deposited by patrons securely. Said signal is to be displayed accord ing to the rules of the post-office department.

In order'to prevent the casing 7 from being entirely withdrawn and disconnected from the casing 15 there is formed upon the forward end-of the'ca'sing 7 the outwardly and'rearwardly turnedflange or rim-'31; which is adapted to cooperate with the in turned rim or fiange 32 of the casing 1, as

clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, and thus act as a stop to prevent the casing? from being entirely removed from the casing 1.
