WILLIAM HINSEN, OF CAT SPRING, TEXAS.
ELEVATED RAILWAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Application filed June 1, 1914. Serial No. 842,088.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VILLIAM HINsEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cat Spring, in the county of Austin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elevated Railways, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in elevated railways and more particularly to terminals and approaches to the same or approaches to stations along the line.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is an end elevation of my improved elevated road showing the lift or elevator associated therewith. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of one of the approaches to a station or terminal. Fig. 5 is a front view of one of the supporting wheels by which the railway cars are carried. Fig. 6 is a side view of Fig. 5 taken on line 6-6 of that figure.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My elevated railway comprises a plurality of towers 1 disposed upon concrete or similar bases 2 and certain towers throughout the line are provided with vertical guides 3 in which an elevator 4c is disposed that is raised and lowered by means of a motor 5 and cables 6 to communicate with a passenger platform 7 from which access to the railway carriages 8 may be had. Each tower supports transverse girders 9 that carry depending angular supports 10 the free terminations of which are grooved lon gitudinal and carry ball and socket-sup ports 11, 12 that support the grooved spans 13 in which the cables 14 are carried upon which the grooved wheels 15 run that are connected by axles 16 that carry the car supports 17 for the railway carriages 8. The
What is claimed is An elevated railway comprising a plurality of towers and transversely extending girders supported thereby, angular depending supports carried by said girders and formed in their free extremities with longitudinally extending grooves, sockets having a base portion adapted to fit snugly in the grooved portions of said supports and with bulged lateral portions forming oppositely disposed shoulders, and grooved spans formed with integral depending balls movably disposed in the said sockets whereby said spans are supported for movement in a vertical plane, said movement being limited by contact of said spans with said shoulders.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. WILLIAM HINSEN.
