Description

s. ELBAUM.
PAIAMAS. APPLICATION FILED $EPT.30., 1.9.114.
. Patented July 22111915.
ATTORNEYS SIMON ELBAUM, 0F BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY.
rains/ms.
Lil lldfiti't.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON ELBAUM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Pajamas, of which the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to wearing apparel, and its object is to provide a new and improved pajamas arranged to permit-convenient vertical adjustment of'the trousers relative to the coat. to insure a proper fit of the trousers as to the length, and to enable the dealer to keep fewer sizes on hand as the trousers can be fitted to persons of different height and girth.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a coat and trousers, the coat being provided at the inside with vertical rows of fastening members, and the trousers being provided exteriorly with single fastening members each adapted to engage one of the fastening members in the corresponding row of fastening members of the coat to wholly support the trousers from the coat and to allow of wearing the trousers higher up or lower down to-suit the height of the wearer.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying draw-- ings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. b Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pajamas as applied and showing the coat in open osition: Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevatlon of the trousers; Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of one open side of the coat; Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the connection between the trousers and the coat at one side; and Fig. 5 is a similar view of the connection between the vided at the sides with darts to gradually narrow the trousers from the hips upward to the waistband E as plainly shown in Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented may er, rare.
dpplication flled September 30, 1914. Serial No. 864,261.
Figs. 1 and 2, and at one side of the upper ends of the darts F are exteriorly arranged buttons E or similar fastening members.
The coat B is adapted to be opened and i closed at the front and is for this purpose provided with overlapping front flaps G and G, of' which the front flap G is provided with fastening members H such as button holes, adapted to engage fastening members H, such as buttons, arran ed' ex-,
teriorly on the flap G so that when t e'coat is closed theflap G is the inner flap, while the flap G is the outer flap (see Fig. 5 The the front of the trousers A, it'bein'g undera stood that the said fastening members I are located near the outer edge of the flap G, as plainly indicated in the drawings. The inner face of the coat B is provided at the sides with vertical strips J each provided with a vertical row of bu-ttonholes or similar fastening members K, any o'ne'of which is adapted to engage the button or other fastening member E on the corresponding side of the trousers A.
In using the pajamas, the wearer first puts on the trousers A and closes the flaps D, D by the fastening members E, and then the will wearer dons the coat B and connects the side fastening members}? with the corresponding fastening members K on the strips J so that the lower ends of the trousers are disfeet. The wearer now fastens the corremember E, and then fastens the flaps Gr,
together by the fastening members H, II.
It will be noticed that by-the arrangement described the trousers A are wholly supported from the coat B and the trousers can be suspended while up or lower down to suit the height of the wearer by enga ing the fastening members E and E Wit corre sponding fastening members I and K on the coat B. Pajamas constructed as shown and described ma then be worn by a erson of more or less eight and dgirth and ence the dealer in pajamas nee not keep a. large number of sizes in stock in order to fit his patrons.
As is well known, the trousers of a'amas as heretofore constructed are provi e with vposed the desired distance above the wearers are draw strings, bands and the like for fasten ing the trousers to the waist of the wearer, but by these means the trousers are closely fitted around the waist and do not provide the desired freedom as the trousers constructed and worn according to my invention above described.
The lower end of the coat B is provided at the sides with inverted V-shaped cut-out portions to widen the coat, and the strips J terminate at their lower ends on the apex a of the-said cut-out portions L to reinforce the same and prevent the coat from being torn at this point.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: n
1. Pajamas comprising a coat and trousers having a waistband provided with a button at the front center and at each side, the coat having overlapping front flaps pi'ovided with fastening devices permitting opening and closing the coat, the inner flap having a vertical row of button holes, of which one is adapted to engage the front trouser button, and button hole flaps secured to the inner face of the coat at each side thereof, each flap being provided with a vertical row of button holes lapted to engage a corresponding side button to support the trousers at the sides.
2. Pajamas, comprising a coat and trousers, the trousers having a walstband pro- .vided with a button at the front and one waistband of the trousers, the said coat having an inverted V-shaped cut-out portion at the lower edge of each side, the said buttonhole flaps terminating at their lower ends on the apex of the said cut-out portions.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
