Description

W. F. WIT
' ROLL l- APPLICATION ,19ll.
1,141,743. Patented J 11110 1, 1915.
wih/wowo UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. WITTIQH, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
ROLLER-BEARING.
Application filed m a, 1911. Serial n6. 836.706.
To all ibhom it may concern Be itknown that I, WILLIAM F. WrrrIoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roller-Bearings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to roller bearings, and consists in certain improvements in the construction-thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim. i
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows:
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the bearing with a side plate removed to better show construction. Fig. 2 a section on the line 22 in Fig. 1.
As sh n the bearing is arranged with rotary cutters in connection with boring or tunneling machines.
1 marks the shaft on which the bearing is mounted, 2 a roller bearing ring next to the shaft, 3 a floating ring, 4- a second roller bearing ring, 5 a tool bearing ring, and 6 tools mounted on the tool bearing ring.
Pins 7 extend through the rings 2, forming bearing pins at each side of the ring 2,
the axes of the pins 7 being in an axial the bearing. On each side of the ring 2 are cars 9. The pins extend through these Specification ofletters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1915.
ears in a radial direction (see dotted lines) and rollers 10 are arranged on the ends of the pins. These rollers are of 'a size to extend slightly beyond the floating ring 3, or immediate surfaces so as to take;
the end thrust of the bearing.
a The ring 4.- is of similar construction as the ring 2. It is provided with the pins 11 In a roller bearing, the combination of outer and inner walls; a roller carrying ring next-to the inner wall; a roller carry ng ring next to the outer wall; an interposed fl0at-' ing ring; and rollers mounted on each side of said roller carrying rings with their axes extending in'an axial direction relatively to the bearing and engaging said walls and said floating ring, said roller carrying rings having rollers mounted thereon with their axes extending in a radial direction.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
