POLISHING MITT.
APPLlcATloN FILED APR.24. 1914.
Patented J une 1, 1915.
ATTORNEYS l citizen of To' aZZ whom it may concern! Be it known" that I, JOHN Reunion, a Athe"' ll'nite'd States, residinsgin the cityfan'd county' of Philadelphia, tate of Pennsylvania;ha'veinvented a new and useful Polishing-Mitt, of which the following is a specification. Y
My present' invention consists of a novel polishing mitt which is'ada dto' be employedfor lageviriety, ,urpeses and in allca'sesvi'he'rei'n Lit is 'itlesiie to' 'polislfoif' clean any desired kind of asurface. I' It further consists of a novel constructionl of a polishing mitt comprising a wrist portion and a` polishing portion which .provides a construction in which both the front face and a portion of the-rear face of the mitt maybe used for polishing purposes.
' I t-further'conslsts of a novel construction of a polishing mitt consisting. of a lfront and a rear member of sheep skin or equivalent i portion which forms the rest of It further consists of other novel features will' give in .liable results,
material which is secured .to a Water proof the mitt.
of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth. I For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawing a preferred form thereof which lis at present preferred by me, since the same practice satisfactory and 'ealthough it is to be understood that the -various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure l represents in perspective a view of a polishing mitt embodying my invention and illustrating the front face ther'eof. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section 'of my device. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the polishing mitt.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the f ront polishing portion of a mitt em- 4cured together at their edgesby means of a 'j and the hire.
bodying my invention and `2- designates the rear polishing portion which is preferably of less length than the front polishing p0rtion 1. The forward endsof the' portions 1A and 2 have a rounded contour` andjareseline of stitching 3,

4 designates a front wrist `forming por- 6 designates a rear wrist forming portion which'isie'xtended, as at of the back' of the mitt and the forward end ofthe portion 7l is connected tothe rear polishing-portion 2 by means of a line of stitchingtlS. The line'of stitching 3 is also continued to secure the edges of the portion 7 to the front polishing portion l and also the side binding tape 8 to such portions, it being understood from Figs. l and 3 that this binding tape is folded over the adjacent edges of the wrist forming portions 4 and 6 and that the line of stitching 3 secures such parts in assembled condition. The free ends of the wrist forming portions 4 and 6 are 7, tojform a portion Lson, the forward end of which mutsen.
als bound together by a tape 9 which is sestitching desired manner, in the present case to the Joined seams of the wrist portion and crossing the latter, thus utilizing said vseams for that purpose. f
The polishing ortions of the mitt are preferabl made o sheep skin or lambswool, thorough y combed and cleaned of all substance, and provided with a strong back of Waterproof material, such as wax cloth or rubberized fabric.
f My novel/mitt is adapted to be used as a polisher for all metals, si
s, guns, harness, i
pianos, furniture, automo ile bodies, lamps,
and other articles, and is an excellent mirror and window cleaner. It i is also capable of employment as a dust'er or as a `combination shoe olisher. It can be used with or without 011 or polish and will not scratch the/finest surface. It is easily cleaned ingasolene, benzin, or similar material.y It is also very durable and capable of hard usa e, and the'hand is fully protected duringjth polishing operation. The entire hand 1s also protected from dirt, polish, oils, The reversible tip, formed by the portion 2, may be used to apply the polish or cleansing material to the surface, While the front portion of the hand would be used for polishing.
It will now be apparent that I have -devised a novel and useful polishing mitt,
which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in ractice satisfactor and reliable results, it 1s to be understoo that the same is susceptible of modification -in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A polishing mitt, comprising a front portion and a shorter back portion of skin having an outer pilar surface and secured at their edges to fit over the palm of the together and a retaining device secured to 30 portion and crossing the same.
