LINK FOR EXPANSIBLE BRACELETS.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7
Patented June 1, 1915.
Application filed November 14, 1914. Serial No. 872,120.
To all 407mm it may concern V Be it known that I, RUFUS KIN a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainville, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Links for Expansible Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in links for eXpansible bracelets, and-the primary object of the invention is to provide a link structure which has novel and improved means for securing the two parts of the link together.
A' further object of the invention is to provide means for locking the two parts of the link in position, which enables the lock ing of the parts to be easily and quickly eii'ected thus saving time and expense in the assemblage of the links.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the two parts of the bracelet link showing the same .in the act of being connected. in its completed form taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a section on the line '3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line H of'Fig. 2.
The two parts 1 and 2 of the bracelet link may be of any desired form, and are here shown of the trough-like type. To one end or" the part 1 is soldered a tubular post 3, which may be formed of hollow wire,
while a similar post i is soldered to the o posite end of the part 2. The opposite end' ofthe part 1 has a pin 5 soldered thereto while the other end of the part 2 has a similaripin 6 soldered thereto. The tubular claim as new and Fi 2 is a section view of the link posts are formed with openings 7 located ad acent to the inner ends of the posts and on the inner sides of the latter, while the pins are formed of malleable material and have their ends tapered and curved inwardly as at 8, so that when the two pins are placed within the tubular posts and the two posts are forced together, the tapered points of the pins due to the malleability of the metal of which the pins are formed, willbe bent and forced through the apertures 7 by reason of the fact that the curved ends of the pins engage with the opposite parts 1 and 2 respectively. It will thus be seen that the points 8 of the pins are forced through the apertures 7 and project through said apertures, thus being clenched to the tubular posts resulting in locking of the pins to the posts so as to prevent separation of the parts. 7
Having thus described my invention, I desire to secure by Letters Patent In combination with the two'parts of a bracelet link, a hollow post on one of the parts and rigidly secured at its inner end to said part, said post having an aperture adjacent its inner end and on its side, and a tapered malleable pin borne by the other part and receivable in the post and having itspoint extending through the aperture.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RUFUS KING.
