JOSEPH FRHN K vertical s the'pump.' Fig. 6 i's-a detail perspective- 45 'riew ofthe removable lower"end portion of the pump barrel; and Fig. 7 is a section JOSEPH FRANK, or PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
msno'srcrnn-msrmnurnn.
ToaZZ evhom it may concern: 7 Y Be it known that I, Josnrri FRANK, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Dupon't, Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insecticide-Distributers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 1
This invention relates to an improved in secticide distributer and has forits primary obj'ecttp provide a device of thischaracter which 'may be conveniently strapped or otherwise secured upon the body of the operator, said device includingmeans whereby the insecticide may be sprayed or otherwise distributed under pressure upon the foliage.'
The invention has for a more particular object. to provide improved means for 2Q mounting a forcev pump within the tanker reservoir, and certain novel structural features in the pump whereby access may be readily had to the parts thereof for the purpose of cleaning or repairing the same. '25 The invention has for a further general object to produce a device of-the above character which is comparatively light in weight,
highly serviceably and convenient inactual' use and one which may be produced at small manufacturing host.
With the above and other objects in view,
- my invention consists inthe novel features of.eonstruction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in these- 'cornpanying drawings, in which, I F lgure l is a perspective viewillustratmg the preferred embodiment of my lnvention.
Fig'. 2 is a vertical section-through the same.
Fig. 3isasection taken on the li'ne'33 'of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an elevation illustrating the attaclzing means. Fig. 5 is an enlarged tlon of the lower end portion of taken on the line 77 of Fig; 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 5 designates a tankonreservoiu-preferably of. the. form shown in'Fig. 1. "a-structed of 'sheet metal andmay be made of This tank is con-' any'desiredcapacity. ,The'loweredge of said tank is reinforced by a sheet iron band 6 which preferably depends below the bottom of the tank.' Upon this band adjacent to one edge ofthe tank a wire loop 7 is hingedly Specification of Letters Patent.

tank a'pair of similar loops To the loop 7 and one of the loops 8 a 'sh0ulder strap 9 is permanently attached at its ends. A similar strap 10 is attachedto theother upper loop 8 at one end and is provided upon its other end with a hook 11 adapted to be engaged under the lower edge of the reinforcing band 6. By means of the straps 9 and 10, the tank or' reservoir may J be conveniently strapped upon the backof the operator. The top wallof the tank,5 is

provided with a filling "openingaround the edge of which the upstanding annular flange 12 is secured. flit-designates. a suitable strainer having a'handle' 14 conveniently attached thereto.
This strainer is remov-' ably held Within the annular flange 12 and A is provided for the purpose of straining the.
insecticide as it is poured into the tank. The
filling opening is adapted to be closed by asuitable cap or cover indicated at 15. Within the tank 5, a pump is removably arranged.
This pump includes a cylindrical barrel 16 upon the upper end of which'ja plate '17 is secured. A pipe or tube,l89is'fiicediinfan opening in'this 'plate and extends, through the barrel to a point adjacent the lower end thereof. The upper end of said pipe is laterally extended and suitably provided for the attachment of a fiexiblehose 1'8 thereto.
To the other end of this hose a 'pipe" 19 is adapted to be coupled,f-or connected, said pipe being provided witha out off valve 206 The outer end of this pipe is equipped with fa suitable spraying nozzle 21. [The top of thetank5 'is also provided with an addi tional opening indicated at22 whieh' communicates with one side of the opening through which the pump. barrel, 16 extends and constitutes ,a continuation thereof.
Around the edges of t'hese openings and be tween the wall of thtank andthe plate 1? on the barrel ,5; gasket 23 of rubber, leather,
or other suitable material is arranged. This gasket is provided with aseries of openings to receive the upstanding threaded bolts 2% which are suitably fixed in the tank Wall. The plate 1'7i, .ilso provided with openings to receive thesdtbolts and upon the bolts clamping nuts 25 are adapted to be threadtion within the tank. v
The lower-end of. the pump barrel 16 is threadedto receive a removable section 26. A cylinder 27 arranged in vertical parallel relation to the pump barrel is suitably secured upon this removable section and passage or .conduit 28 connects the interior of said cylinder at its lower end to the base of the removable barrel section 26. Communication is aiforded between the interior To the bottom of said barrel section a stud bolt 30 is secured upon which a valve disk of rubber or other flexible material shown at 31 is arranged and securely held by means of the nut 32 which is'threaded uponsaid bolt. It will be observed that the lower end of the pipe or tube 18 is disposed at one side of the center of the pump barrel and contiguous to the edge of saidvalve disk.- In
the lower end of the cylinder- 27 a valve cage 33 is removably threaded, a-suitable packing washer 34 being arranged between the lower end of the cylinder and the body of said cage. In the valve cage a ball check valve 35 v is arranged. 36 designates the pump rod which is provided upon its lower end with the plunger-or'piston 37 which reciprocates in the cylinder 27. The pump rod; exte' ds through a tube or sleeve 38 w 'ich provided upon its lower end with a annular flange 39 for engagement with the piston. The upper end of this tube is disposed 'y'vithin a tubular boss40 formed uponlthe" plate 17. The pumprod 36 extend above the upper end of said tube and is threaded for a purpose to be later describeda'i The bperating means for the pump ineludes vertica ly movable bar 41 mounted in Sui; bleiguides 42 which aresecured upon the w l o t 7 this iar is laterally extended inwardly over the tank as shown at 43 and is proiz l'" ed witli' an opening to receive the upper ed eta the pump rod. A nut'44 is threaded e pd of the bar 41 against the upper end of t e sleeve 38. "In-"the downward move- ,ment of the fpum piston, the ball check valve '35 isforce into its closed position and the=solution in said cylinder expelled therefrom through the passage or conduit 28. and upwardly through the openmgr-29 in the lower. end section of. the pump barrel. The valve disk 31 is forced upwardly and the liquid held thereby in the barrel until suificient pressure accumulates to cause the same to move upwardly through orcibly" the pipe 18, In this manner, it will be s u that the liquid is sprayed under pressure from. the nozzle on the end of the pipe 19, upon the foliage.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying the manner of. operation and several advandrawings,
tages ofmy invention will be fully and clearly understood. A large amount of'the solution may be carried in the tank 5 and %1 ickly and properly sprayed without waste.
y, mounting the 'pum within the tank in the manner above exp ained, the same may be veryeasily and quickl'yremoved therefrom and the lower end section-fof the pump barrel detached from the body thereof so that access may be :had tothe interior of said barrel for the purpose ofcleaningor repairing the same. The pump thus also be readily repaired or t e packing thereof renewed when necessary.
tank or reservoir is constructed entirely of sheet metal, it will be appreciated that the.
