To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, IDA M. FINOI-I, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supports, of which the following, taken in connection with the drawing, is a description.

My invention has for its object the production of an abdominal supporter, which is adapted to be used as a supporter and a truss, or either, and to provide such a device which shall be much improved in construction and efliciency.

My device is adapted to adjust itself to the body of the wearer and to be maintained in position without the use of hose supporters or other straps which exert a downward pull in an attempt to hold the supporter in proper position on the body.

With the above and other objects and advantages of construction in view, my invention consists of certain details and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my supporter; Fig. 2 is an inside view of the device looking from the bottom toward the top; Fig. 3 is a detail illustrating the adjustable pad.

Referring to the drawing A represents the body of the supporter which may be of any material suitable for the purpose. This device isconstructed and arranged to be laced at the back as shown at A, the back of the supporter preferably extending a short distance above the waist line, although in some instances the back extends only to the waist line of the wearer. Upon either side of the lacing A are vertically arranged steels or whalebones a, a, which extend from the top to the bottom of the supporter. Upon either side of the stays a, a, and extending from the top to the bottom of the support is a single stay a, a. The stays a, a extend from the waist line forwardly and downwardly to the bottom of the supporter. The stays a, a, and a, a are the only stays in the support, and by means of the construction and arrangement as herein described I am enabled to maintain the device perfectly in shape upon the body without the tendency to wrinkle or move upwardly toward the waist line.

B is a strip of Webbing extending from the top to the bottom of the support at the center front. Upon each side of the webbing B is a webbing strip B, B, each of which extends from the waist line downwardly and backwardly to the bottom edge of thefiaps C, C. Uponeach side of' the front center webbing B is a reinforcing flap 6, G. Each of these reinforcing flaps is practically triangular in shape with the lower corner thereof detached from the body portion, and being provided at the free corner thereof with a fastening device which may be a buckle c, or any other well known securing means. One edge of each of these flaps is secured with the center webbing B to the body of the support. A strip of webbing D encircles the supporter at the waist line and terminates at the back with a buckle or other fastening device d. Extending across the front of the supporter at the bottom thereof is a strip of webbing D which extends to the ends of the reinforcing flaps C, C and is provided with the fastening devices d, (23

Each of these strips extend forwardly to a point where they are met by the fastening devices upon the ends of the reinforcing strips 0, C, and are secured together. F is a pad of any size or shape desired, which is adapted to be secured in position where required by simply attaching it to the body of the supporter with any removable fastening device, as for instance a safety pin, 7.

It will be observed that I have provided a central vertical support at the back, which extends above the waist line. angularly extending supports a, a,follow the lines of the muscles of the body in sup porting each side of the back. With the back of the wearer thus reinforced along the natural lines of traction, the abdomen may be supported by such compression as may be provided by adjusting the lacing at the back, and by the circumferentially extending webbing strips 6, e and D.
