T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALFRED GUsTArsoN, citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, inthe county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Fixtures for Garments, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to display fixtures for use in show cases or Cabinets, and designed to support garments or similar articles, and the chief objects of the improvements which constitute the subject matter of this application for patent are to provide a fixture that will be available to support various articles of wearing apparel in a manner to properly exhibit them for inspection; to arrange a simple and easily operated mechanism to adapt the apparatus to be shifted or revolved so as to assume a variety to facilitate the convenient andJ complete inspection of the garments supported thereon. These main objects, and others of importance, are accomplished by employing the apparatus illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this apnlication.
' The details of construction and manner of assembling are disclosed in the several views which, briefly described, are as follows Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, the cutting plane being transversely to the carriage track; F ig. 2 is a top plan view of the guide plate; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the base and a portion of the column.
Referringto the details of the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a vertical pillar or column, comprising a central post or shaft 6 of suitable length and having its lower end reduced and provided with threads 7 which engage a threaded boss in an upper rectangular bearing plate 8, which has two opposite margins supported on parallel rails 9,
connected at the ends by tie pieces 10 and supported above the ioor 11 by frame pieces 12, which have legs 13 secured to the main floor 11 by bolts or spikes 111. Beneath the track is arranged a lower bearing plate l5 of the same size as the upper plate 8, and adjustably secured thereto by boltsV 16. The opposite margins of this plate engage the under sides of the track as in the case of the plate 8. The plates 8 and 15 secured together in the manner described constitute a carriage which is adapted to travel on the track formed by the rails 9, and to reduce friction I introduce balls 17 between the bearing parts, the contacting surfaces being provided with suitable retaining grooves or channels 18 in which the balls roll. Ball retaining plates 17a are provided to secure proper spacing of the balls 17, so that the carriage will be properly supported at every portion of its travel from end to end of the track. Surrounding the shaft @is a tube or pipe 19, which has threaded connection at the lower end with a guide or roller arm 20 which loosely surrounds the shaft 6, a set of bearing balls 21 being located between the guide arm 2O and shaft to steady the arm. The upper end of the pipe 19 has threaded vconnection with Va collar 22 secured to a sleeve 24 by cap screws 23. The upper end of the shaft '6 is reduced where it passes through the sleeve 24 and the latter is counterbored above and below to receive ball bearing cones 25, 26. The lower cone 25 is supported upon the shoulder formed by the upper end of the shaft 6 and the upper cone 26 is retained by an adjusting nut 27 on the end of the reduced portion of the shaft.
The apparatus herein described is designed to be located within a protecting casing or cabinet, as is the usual custom in devices ofthis class. The reference numeral 28 represents the floor of such a cabinet, the walls of the structure being omitted, since my invention has no positive relation thereto. The said floor 28 is supported in any convenient manner at a suitable height above the building floor 11 and is provided with a rectangular opening 29 beneath which the track and carriage are located, so that the column 5 will project therethrough. Suitably supported within the said opening 29 is a guide plate 30 having a longitudinal slot 31 through which the main shaft 6 projects. The roller arm 2O projects at equal distances upon opposite sides of the column and is provided at each end with a pair of antifriction rollers 32, arranged upon the under side of the said arm, and adapted to engage the outer side of guide ribs 33 cast upon the upper side of the guide plate 30. These ribs are parallel opposite one end of the median slot 31 and the remaining portions are slightly curved and inclined toward the median line as indicated at 34 in Fig. 2. Arranged on the plate 30 and surrounding the other end of the slot 31 is a guide ring 85, of
ment and having end portions converging toward the front of the case or compartment, and means connected to the rack for rotative movement therevvithto engage the converging portions of said guide ribs as the rack` is moved into the case to bring the rack into parallelism With the case or compartment.
8. In a display device, the combination of a case or compartment, a rotatable rack movable to and from a position Within the case, a pair of guide ribs connected to the case or compartment and having end portions a case or compartment, a rotatable rack movable to and from a position Within the case,
a guiding rib device connected to the case or compartment and having separated but converging end portions, a member connected to the rack and normally out of engaging relation With said rib device When the rack is in front position and adapted to be brought into engagement therewith and to embrace said rib device to turn the rack into parallelism With the case or compartment as the rack is moved to its inner position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
ALFRED GUSTAFSON.
