Description
A. N. WRIGHT.
HANGER FOR USE IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION.
APPLICATION FILED IAN. 24, 1908 Patented Apr. 20, 191".
WITNESSES:
' TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT N. WRLGH'I, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
HANGER FOR USE IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIOIT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT R WRIGHT, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Hanger for Use in Concrete Construction, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object the production of a hanger for use in concrete construction, which is particularly simple in construction and capable of more or less adjustment.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views. a
Figure 1 is a sectional view of my hanger showing the same embedded in the concrete. Fig. 2 is a 'plan view of the hanger, a part being removed. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the body of my hanger.
This hanger comprises a body l'designed to be embedded in the concrete, and an engaging member or hanger-proper 2, suspended from the body. The body is preferably elongated and formed with outwardly inclined or flared sides and ends 3 and 4, extending above the part of the body directly supporting the engaging member 2, for facilitating the securement of the body in the concrete, said body being open at its top for permitting the concrete to engage innerand outer sides thereof. As shown, the ends 4 are of greater height than the central portions of the sides 3, and, together with the end portions 5 of the sides, form wings having channels in which the concrete runs when poured. The body is also formed with an elongated chamber 6 in its lower portion, the chamber having an open top and a slot 7 in its bottom midway between the sides of said chamber. A supporting member, here shown as a non-circular head or nut 8, is located in said chamber, the sides of the nut engaging the sides of the chamber, and the threaded opening 9 thereof, being alined with the slot. The chamber is covered by a plate 10 which rests on a ledge 11 surrounding the top of the chamber, and prevents the concrete from entering the chamber.
12 is a connecting element projecting through the slot 7 and-preferably detachably connected to both members 2 and 8. As here shown, the engaging member 2 is formed with an eye 13 for receiving a'pipe Specification of Letters Patent.

or other part to be supported by the hanger, and with a threaded passage 14 for receivinglthe outer threaded end of the connecting element, said engaging member being adjust able lengthwise of the connecting element, toward and from the, body, and adjustable laterally relatively to the body, by reason of the ability of the nut to be moved in the chamber 6 along the slot 7.
The upper end of the connecting member is threaded and enters the threaded opening of the nut and the end face thereof engages the late 10 and acts as a set screw for holding the member 12 in its adjusted position relatively to the slot 7. It is obvious, however, that a bolt may be substituted for the nut and connecting element.
In placing the hanger in position, it is secured to the wood false work before the pouring of the concrete, by a bolt passing through the wood false work and into the nut 8, and when the wood false work is removed, the engaging member and connecting member are substituted for the bolt.
