This invention -comprehends certain new and useful improvements in magazine 'brushes and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which will be constructed in such manner that it will be of extremely simple construction .and operation, as well as highly eiiicient in,
Another object is to provide a device of this character which will be constructed as a tooth brush, shaving brush, blacking brush and the like, and which ma be provided with means for automatical y .closing the discharge opening of the barrel. A further object of this invention is to Vprovide a device of this character in which With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my, invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying. drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the complete device, Fig. 2 is a detail transverse section' taken on the plane of line 2--2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detail transverse section through the brush proper on the plane of line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the barrel of the device which has one end open and adapted to be closed by a screw cap 2, having a flanged outer end 3 for engagement against the end of the barrel to limit inward inovef` ment of said cap. Secured to the cap 2 is one end of v.a helical expansive spring 4, which has`its opposite end engaged in the follower 5 positioned in said barrel and bearing kagainst the paste or other material 6 to be forced through the valve opening 7 of the reciprocating valve 8 within the discharge end of .the barrel and through the alined passages 9 and 10 to the bristles 11 of the brush proper 12, by way of the turned end 13 of said passage 10.
It will be understood that the passage 10 entends longitudinally of the brush properA and when the reduced threaded inner end 14 of said brush proper 12 is engaged inl the interiorly threadedsocket 15 at the forward end of the barrel 1. It will therefore be seen that as the passage 9 extends from a4 main portion or the hollow portion of the barrel 1 to the socket 15, the passage 10 will connect with the passage 9 when the brush proper 12 is secured to the barrell.
' The reciprocating valve 8 is in the forni" of aplate having the central valve opening 7, previously mentioned, extending transversely therethrough and said valve 8 is Y positioned against the front -wall 16 of the main or hollow portion of the barrel 1 andv is resiliently retained in its uppermost poy sition by means of the leaf spring 17 whichI has one end secured against the outer face of the barrel 1, while its oifsetfree end is engaged against the underface of the head 18 of the stem 19, which extends through the uide openin 20 in the upper face of the arrel 1 and tremity secured to the upper end ofthe valve 8. 1t will therefore be seen that the` valve 8 is guided in its reciprocating 'move ment caused by pressing the head 18 of the I stem 19 toward the barrel 1 to bring the 10G valve opening 7 opposite the passa e 9 and thereby permit the follower 5 to orce the paste or other material 6 through the valve opening 7 vvalve 8, I have provided a guide pin 21 in' the bottom of the barrel 1 and extending upwardly and passages 9 and 10 to the brush bristles 11, it being understood that as soon as g as its vlower or inner exe projecting into the socket 22 formed in the ira* therein beneath'the valve 8 and hottoin of said valve 8, and it Will he readily apparent that this guide pin 2l, together with the stem 19, Will prevent lateral movement or" the valve 8 and assure proper operation of the saine,

What is claimed is A magazine tooth brush of the class described comprising a barrel having a longin tudinal bore with a reduced portion forniing a stop Wall at one end of said large portion of said bore, a reciprocating valve en gaged against the said stop Wall and having a transverse opening adapted to register with the smaller portion of said longitudinal bore, a stem engaging the upper portion of said valve and extending through the guide opening in the upper face of said barrel, a guide pin in the bottom of the barrel and extending upwardly and projecting into the socket formed in said valve, a leaf spring having one end secured against the outer face of said barrel, and the opposite end engaging the head of the stem above said barrel.
