Speceation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application led September 29, 1913. Serial No. 792,508.
T all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN A. AGAR, citizen of the United States, residing at East Orange, in thecounty of Essex and State ofl New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Easels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
' in all forms, provides clear, and exact description of provide improved means for maintaining the wing in its desired position and for locking the parts of the wing so as to obtain the greatest rigidity.
Further objects will be apparent from the4 following specification, appended claim and drawings in which:
Figure l is a perspective type of easel, Fig. Q is a plan view'- of the blank. l
In easels of thischaracter, it frequently happens that the easel is to support heavy show cards or the like and must maintain said show cards in fixed position for an indefinite period.
As the easels' are: generally made of card board or other flexible material, it is neces' sary that the wing ofthe easel should be reinforced to a certain extent in such a way that the points of the wing which carry the greatest strain must be protected against buckling or sagging.
Referring'to the drawing there is shown an easel having a portion 22 which is intended 'to be glued or otherwise secured to the show card and from this portion wings 23 may be bent a on the lines of scorin 24. In stamping the lank for this easel icking members are formed in the following the lower vportion of the section 22 has an increased Width as at 2.5 from which extends a tongue foldable as along the line of scoring 26. .This tongue has portions 28 which form recesses 29 and e'X- to easels and more' view of this tending in opposite directions from near the end .of this blank 27' are the heads 30 which have reduced necks as shown. The' wings 23 are 4provided at remote distances from the lines of scoring24 with openings 31. which have an enlargement to admit the heads 30,'and a reduced portion tb engage the necks of the heads 30.
When the easel as shown is to be set up, the portions and 25 having been glued'or otherwise secured to the show card, the wings Q3 are opened along the lines of scoring 2l. the blank 27'is bent between the wings 23, the recesses 29 are put into engagement with the curved portions of the Win s from which the parts 28 are struck and the heads 30 are passed through the enlarged portions of the opening 31, after which the tongue 27 is moved downwardly to cause said blank to positively lock the wings Q3 in spaced relation and to reinforce those portions of the wings 23 which are most liable to buckle or sag.
Modifications may be made withinthe scope of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof and the drawing is submitted for illustrative purposes only.
Having thus described my invention, claim:
`In an easel of the class described, a central portion, wings on the opposite side edges of said central portion, and bendable to extend rearwardly therefrom, a tongue having its body portion struck wings and central portion and bendable along a line transverse to the central portion to extend between the rearwardly extending wings, .the wings being recessed at their inner edges adiacent the line of bend of said tongue, being also provided 'with openings spaced from said inner edges; heads on the said tongue adapted to engage in said openings and said tongue having shoulders formed thereon adapted to engage the edges of the recessed portions of said wings when said wings and tongue are bent rearwardly from said central portion. 1
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
